Hurricane Katrina Relief
Many Rotarians have asked what they can do to support the Katrina Relief effort.
Rotary International is in the process of establishing a connection with the District
Governors of the affected districts. They will identify what and where the need is
and the specific support required. They will also identify preferred channels for sending
support. Volunteer support and supplies are inappropriate at this time, however financial
support can be sent to the addresses listed below:
Make checks payable to:
District 6940 Foundation re: Katrina Relief Fund
c/o Wayne Edwards
1682-B Metropolitan Circle
Tallahassee, Florida 32308
The District in Louisiana coordinating help there is:
Rotary District 6200 Foundation
c/o DG Don Chauvin
1712 Charity Street
Abbeville, LA 70511-0698
If you want to help in Houston, TX where 30,000+ refugees are being bussed and
expected to stay for several months:
District 5890 Charities
c/o DG Charlie Thorp
121 E. 16th Street
Houston, TX 77008
We want to make sure our support goes where and when it will have the greatest impact.
Rotary leadership in the affected districts will be our conduits. I am sure, at some point,
specific supplies and volunteer support will be much welcomed and specifically targeted.
We will communicate that to you as soon as it is known.
Shelter Box USA Another way of aiding with the relief efforts in the wake of
hurricane Katrina is by sponsoring a ShelterBox for the evacuees. A ShelterBox consists
of items like tents, water purification kits, tools, blankets, etc. For more details on
ShelterBox and how you can help, click on the link below:

Rotary International Literacy Mission September 8th is International
Reading Day. Being a huge proponent of world literacy, the President of Rotary
International has asked that all Rotarians make a commitment to either read to
a child, or read to yourself for at least an hour, on that day. The month of
September is also National Youth Month.
Habitat For Humanity Tallahassee Habitat For Humanity (THFH) is organizing their 2nd
annual "Bring Your Party to Our House" event. On Friday, December 2nd at the Civic Center,
THFH will host area businesses with an evening of live entertainment, music, dancing, professional

Wheel Chair Foundation
We have finally sent off the money raised, from the Casino Night, to the Wheel Chair Foundation.
We were able to purchase 14 chairs from the proceedings.
Casino Night 2006
I have tentatively set a date of Saturday, February 18, 2006, 8 pm, at Golden Eagle Country Club
for next year's Casino Night. If anyone knows of any big event happening on that night and why
we should not hold it on that night, please let me know. The availability of suitable nights is running
out quickly. Through my affiliation to Golden Eagle, the rental fee is waived.
Part of the proceedings from Casino Night will help the literary program in India, through the Buffalo
Project. If you have any other projects you would like us to pursue, please let me know.

Member Profile Jonathan Kilman was born in Patterson, New Jersey.
He was raised in New Jersey, home of Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and mega-malls,
until the age of 13, when his family moved to South Florida. Jonathan attended middle
and high school in Coral Springs, Florida. When not playing soccer or after-school beach
volleyball, Jonathan got his first taste of governmental affairs as two-time Vice President
for his high school class. While in high school, Jonathan also received an education in
good citizenship as the recipient of a Freedoms Foundation scholarship to attend training
in Valley Forge, PA. After attending one homecoming game/Gator Growl filled weekend
and staying at an undisclosed sorority house during his senior year, Jonathan was
convinced the University of Florida was for him.
At the University of Florida, Jonathan studied finance, and was a member of Phi Delta
Theta fraternity, where he served as activities chairman. Jonathan also served as
President of the Student Senate and as a student lobbyist representing UF students
at the state and national level. After graduating from UF, Jonathan attended law
school in Massachusetts, and married Niva in Miami Beach, FL following his first year
of law school. While in law school, Jonathan worked for the US Attorney's Office, with
the Federal Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Despite the cold winters, Jonathan practiced transactional law in Boston, MA for a
couple of years while Niva worked as a speech pathologist specializing in rehabilitation
of deaf children ages 0-3. When Jonathan and Niva decided to start a family, they
returned to their Florida roots and moved to Tallahassee. Jonathan now practices
statewide governmental law at GrayRobinson, PA.
Jonathan and Niva have two children, Maxwell (3) and Isabel (almost 2!). Max has
officially had two horseback riding lessons, and Isabel is distributing smiles daily.

Go 'Noles! In spite of the questionable quarterback play,
a field-goal miscue affects Miami-FSU AGAIN, as it is the 'Noles
who catch the break this time around in a 10-7 victory.

3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
