WASTE NOT, WANT NOT

If you haven't read the excellent Q&A article in the "Rotarian"January 2020 issue about fellow Rotarian Joe Richardson's outstanding work in establishing the "Lunch Out of Landfills" project in Frederick County schools, click on the link below. As the owner of a summer camp, Joe Richardson has long been dedicated to environmental issues. The Bar-T Mountainside Challenge & Retreat Center and Summer Camp in Maryland runs on solar and geothermal energy; composting toilets save water. Richardson also runs after-school programs that include opportunities to learn about environmental issues. So when a teacher at a local high school asked him to help start a program to stop food waste from ending up in landfills, Richardson, a member of the Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County (Urbana), Maryland, seized the opportunity. SMOKETOWN ROTARY CLUB ADOPTS
OKTOBERFEST STRUDEL & PRETZEL STATION

The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, lead sponsors of the annual Oktoberfest at the Frederick County Fairgrounds, recognized the Rotary Club of Smoketown, Brunswick, Maryland for the club’s pilot initiative staffing the strudel and pretzel station at the Rotary Club’s signature special event fundraiser this fall.

Carroll Creek Rotarian Ashley Waters, chair of the 2019 Oktoberfest, presented the Smoketown Rotary Club a $500 check in recognition of the club’s volunteer staffing at this year’s event. The Smoketown Rotary Club has committed to managing the strudel and pretzel station in 2020.

BRUNSWICK INTERACT CLUB NEWS
The Club voted to organize the planting of 35 Trees in the Spring of 2020. The Trees will be planted in our local communities under the direction of Brunswick City Planners and area reforest experts.
April 4th – District 7620 Youth Summit at Bar T Ranch in Frederick County. Reforestation and erosion mitigation projects will be performed. Main topic of discussion is Climate Awareness & projects.
