SMOKETOWN ROTARY CLUB HONORS CARLO ALFANO
AS PAUL HARRIS FELLOW

On October 17, in socially-distanced ceremonies at Brunswick’s River’s Edge Trail, the Rotary Club of Smoketown, Brunswick, Maryland presented a Paul Harris Fellow Award to Brunswick resident Carlo Alfano, a driving force behind Brunswick’s Mountain Biking Rivers Edge Trail and the Bike Brunswick organization.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award, named for the Founder of Rotary International, is presented to an individual who embodies the character traits expressed in the Rotary motto - “Service Above Self”. A $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation has been made in Carlo Alfano’s honor. The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The River’s Edge Trail Head is located at 13th and Cummings Drive in Brunswick. Currently about four miles of trail are open to the public for hiking, running, and biking.

Smoketown Rotary Club President Ernie Stepoulos presented Alfano with the Paul Harris certificate and medallion.

Also participating in the Paul Harris Fellow award ceremonies was Carroll Creek Rotary Club Vice President (and Club President-designee for Rotary Year 2022-2023) Ashley Waters. The Carroll Creek Rotary Club is the Club which sponsored the Smoketown Rotary Club in its charter year (2018).

Brunswick area residents who are previous Paul Harris Fellow awardees include Sandy Cox (2013), Charlie Harris (2016), Jim Cox (2018), and Shirley Shores (2019).

I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to pass on the following information to all of you in preparation for World Interact Week 2020.

Join the virtual World Interact Week party to celebrate the power of Interact, featuring a special guest appearance, exciting new announcements, and an opportunity to connect with Interactors around the world.

In addition to joining the virtual party, take action with your Interact club with these ideas to celebrate World Interact Week:

1. Share your best service project or leadership development activity in the 2020 Interact Awards. This year, Rotary is accepting videos, photos, and essays as part of the Interact Awards. Learn more and nominate your Interact club by 1 December 2020. (http://on.rotary.org/2020InteractAwards)

2. Plan a service project or celebration with your sponsor Rotary club and local Rotaract club. Check out these ideas to plan service projects and club meetings virtually. (http://my.rotary.org/learn?deep-link=https%3A//learn.rotary.org/members/learn/dashboard/channel/67)

3. Work with your sponsor club to complete a certificate of recognition to highlight the positive impact during World Interact Week. Remember, social media promotion of a World Interact Week activity by your Interact club is an optional goal towards achieving the Rotary Citation for Interact Clubs. Use this worksheet to track your progress toward the Rotary Citation for Interact Clubs throughout the year. (https://my-cms.rotary.org/.../rotary-citation-goals-and...)

Share your celebrations with #WorldInteractWeek and RSVP to the event for the most up-to-date events calendar and for access to live virtual events throughout the week.

Please email (mncruz10@gmail.com) or call/text (562.303.4711) me with any questions.

Serve, lead, and/or connect with us!

RSVP by November 5th!!!
