We are thrilled to announce that we will be taking a group to India to participate in a National Polio Immunization Day this September.

Please feel free to share this information with the Rotarians and clubs in your District as soon as possible as the size of this group will be limited and confirmations in the program will be on a first come, first served basis. We expect this trip to be filled within the next week or two.

You can find detailed info on our website: www.HowardTours.net and the rest of the story by clicking here to see dates and trip highlights including visits to the Taj Mahal, and the magnificent Pink City of Jaipur and participate in polio NID activities.

Matching the Original $26.50 -- Together We Can Deliver 100%

By DG Gerry Kosanovic

From the very first day as your District Governor, I continue to recommend a member donation of $26.50 to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The amount of $26.50 was chosen because it was the first donation to The Rotary Foundation by the Rotary Club of Kansas City in 1917.

Giving to the Rotary Foundation teaches us how selfless giving, even in small amounts, can quickly add up, making a massive difference in the lives of others. Please donate today, with a minimum of $26.50. I guarantee you will feel good doing good in the world. Giving to The Rotary Foundation means caring for people.

Rotary Youth Exchange Student Success Story--30 Years Later!

By Stephen Swearingen

In the 1992-93 Rotary Year our family was lucky enough to be one of the host families for a young 16-year old Rotary Exchange Student from Poland, Kasia Bednarek .Kasia was part of a group of the first Rotary exchange students from Poland following the breakup of the old Soviet Union.

She wanted to stay in America and go to College. We convinced her she needed to go back to Poland and help rebuild her country. Kasia went home, attended medical school earning her medical degree, a degree in dentistry and macular surgery. She now works as a pathologist at a hospital in Poznan, Poland. She has made several trips back to Grants Pass to visit, including one summer after medical school with her husband.

Her touching and compelling success story continues at the D5110 website by clicking here. What a difference one Rotary Youth Exchange can make!

Assorted Levity for Your Rotary Week/Life

By Mike Corwin

Amusing but authentic words to add to your vocabulary (or not):

Dollop: This describes a quantity of something, usually food.

Festooned: This has nothing to do with cartoons and everything do with décor and how a place is decorated.

Fuddy-duddy: A person who is super old-fashioned and doesn’t want anything to do with modern trends would be called this.

Gobbledygook: While this might sound like gross food, it actually means the same thing as the word “gibberish.”

Popple: This is a term that means “choppy seas.”

Hodgepodge: You can use this word when you’re talking about having a mix of random and various items.

Ramshackle: This describes something that looks like it’s about to fall apart.

Wishy-washy: A person who has trouble making a decision- big or small- is called this word.
