Imagining A Better Educated World!

September Message from DG Gerry Taylor

“Imagine Rotary”

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month in the Rotary World. Exciting things are happening in District 6910 when it comes to education and literacy. Many clubs are recruiting and sponsoring schools to participate in the Georgia Laws of Life essay contest. This contest is for high school students who will be writing an essay about life’s lessons learned. In the entire state of Georgia, there are currently 62 schools committed to this outstanding program with many of these schools located in District 6910. There is still time to recruit and sponsor schools. The essays will be judged in late winter with awards determined in early spring.

Speaking of education, we will soon be announcing a new College Scholarship program sponsored and financed by District 6910. This program was spearheaded by PDG Tina Fischlin. It will be an annual program for 1 or more students within District 6910 who have qualified for the Pell Grant program. Stay tuned.

We also have several new Early Act and Interact clubs starting up this year. Congratulations to those clubs who have started these new programs!

Following up on August’s Membership Month, I am pleased to say that I have had the pleasure and opportunity to induct many new members during my club visits. District 6910 is the leading District in Georgia for new members since July 1st, 2022. We are well on our way to a 5% net membership increase for 2022-23. We have over 30 new members in our District for the first two months of this Rotary year. Our goal is a net 150 new members. Keep up the great work!
