I am pleased to bring you an interview with the delightful Maya Provençal. She is a former Youth Exchange student, and currently won a seat on the Rossland, B.C. City Council (with, btw, the highest number of votes!). (Responses are paraphrased… I can’t type that fast!) Read More

Club Charter Updated with New Name

Tuesday, October 25, 2022

The District 5080 Passport club has recently been renamed the District 5080 Passport Peacebuilder Club and a new Charter reflecting this change has been issued by Rotary International.

This change reflects the focus of the Club and its members on promoting peace, understanding, and goodwill throughout the District and across the Globe.

Additionally, the renaming of the Club recognizes the honour of being the first Peacebuilder Club designated by the Rotarian Action Group for Peace within District 5080.

Rotary Scholar Xuan Nhi Nguyen (from Bellevue Sunrise)

By Lynn O'Connor on Monday, October 24, 2022
Excerpts from Xuan’s Letter to Bellevue Sunrise Rotary:
There have been many moments when I felt alone on the path to pursue medicine. The Rotary Scholarship extends beyond just financial support. It is also a reminder of trust and encouragement for me to continue doing the things that excite me.
Having grown up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged household, the support from teachers, mentors, and generous donors kept me going. I am particularly passionate about working to bridge the gap in healthcare for vulnerable communities and closing the educational opportunity gap for future generations.
Medicine is a field that relies on both intra and interprofessional collaboration. I am excited to form partnerships with organizations like Rotary. Just as you have so generously supported my medical education, I hope to be able to contribute to your mission in the near future.
Thank you for your support. Let’s do this together! Read More

PR Tips and Tricks November 2022

By Lynn O'Connor on Friday, November 4, 2022
If your club doesn't have a Public Image Chair, please select one! This is a fun position! For those interested in such things, the Zone Public Image page is a fantastic resource.

For newer members: our District is part of a Zone. Just as a club is part of a District, a District is part of a Zone. We are District 5080 in Zone 27. You can learn more about our Zone here: https://zone2627.org/ Read More

Zone Institute; Trails To Peace

By Lynn O'Connor on Friday, November 4, 2022
Just as a club is part of a District (our District is 5080), Districts are part of a Zone. We are Zone 27. For practical purposes Zones are paired, and we are paired with Zone 26. Together they encompass the entire Western United States and wee bits of Canada (thanks to International Districts like ours!)

Zone Institute is coming up next week. Zone Institute brings together members and guests from throughout the western United States and Canada and features:
  • Interactive, peer-based discussion and learning sessions.
  • Inspirational speakers and presentations.
  • Special program for Emerging Rotary Leaders from all 30 Districts in the Zones.
  • Service activities.
  • Networking and fun!

The Institute celebrates the graduation of the District Governors Elect from their week-long training course that helps prepare them to lead their Districts the following year.

I'll let you know all about it next issue, and next year maybe you can plan on going!
