DDF Requests for Global Grants

By William Dunwoody on Wednesday, December 21, 2022
Effective 1 November 2022, the District Rotary Foundation Committee has implemented a new process for the request of District Designated Funds (DDF) for Global Grants.

It has always been our policy as part of the District D5080 Policy Manual, Article IX, Section 9.01(d)ii to have clubs requesting DDF for their Global Grants to make these requests prior to implementing their Global Grant applications. To facilitate a process that will ensure these requests are made prior to submission of the application, a DDF MOU has been implemented to facilitate the notification of DDF requests.

If your club anticipates a need for DDF allocation from the District for a Global Grant, please contact the DRFCC, Bill Dunwoody, at whd@dunwoodyfamily.net to request the appropriate form, or the form may be accessed on the D5080 Website under Foundation > Foundation Resources > Foundation Documents > DDF MOU Request.

7-Step Resolution to be Goal Driven in 2023

By Todd Shepard on Thursday, December 29, 2022

(* from the editor: it's very fun to see how synced our Membership -Chair-turned District-Governor-Elect and our new Membership Chair are! ha!)

It’s no big secret, most New Year’s resolutions fizzle out by the time the champagne wears off. The main reason is ‘resolution’ is usually just a fancy word for ‘wish’ and has little to do with actual goal setting.

We all have wishes. Birthday wish, upon-a-star wish, holiday wish, and yes, the New Year’s Resolution wish. They are simple, you close your eyes then keep it to yourself, because we know telling someone else is bad luck! It’s difficult to imagine the percentage of wishes that come true. Based on my own experience, I have a hunch the number is fairly low. If you are seeking change in your club, business, or life, forget blowing the candles and resolve to create a GOAL.

Monday, December 26, 2022
We need your help in Spreading the Message of Peace and Understanding

In collaboration with the District 5080 and District 5100 Annual Conference Committee, the Peacebuilders in Action Summit planning committee has been diligently working on the fourth installment of the Arc of Positive Peace series of events.

The next event is called, “Working Together for Positive Peace,” and will include an International Luncheon, the Peacebuilders in Action Summit, and a Peace Pole Dedication. The event is scheduled for 18 May 2022 and will begin at 12:00 pm Pacific. We have selected the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center, 1943 Columbia Park Trail, Richland as the venue for this event.

A significant part of this event is to place a Peace Pole, a Hibaku Jomoku (Atom Bomb Tree) and a Time Capsule at the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center and to dedicate this pole to Peace among many nations, including those impacted locally and globally by the Manhattan Project.

Why Rotary is growing in Ukraine during a war

By Lynn Theresa O'Connor on Thursday, December 29, 2022
Membership has grown 23.5% in Ukraine since Russian forces invaded the country on 24 February 2022. The region, which comprises Rotary District 2232, has added four Rotary clubs and five satellite clubs. The reasons behind this growth hold important insights for any Rotary club interested in increasing its membership or any district looking to add clubs.

Rotary Youth Exchange returns!

By Lynn Theresa O'Connor on Friday, December 30, 2022

By Logan Johnson, Youth Exchange and Youth Protection Promotions and Engagement Specialist at Rotary International)

A few years ago, volunteers of the Rotary Youth Exchange program were sending thousands of students around the globe each year to learn new languages, discover new cultures, and become global citizens. Then COVID-19 brought almost every aspect of the program to a screeching halt. Like many other aspects of Rotary, the program found new life online with virtual exchanges, which offered a safe alternative to in-person exchanges.

But many anticipated the return of in-person exchanges, and as of May 2022 in-person exchanges were planned and are happening worldwide for the first time in over two years!
