March 2023

Message from the Governor

Our District Conference is April 14-16 and will be here soon. Please sign up in DACdb using the calendar or with this link.

I'm asking for each club to send at least one Rotarian to each day of the conference. Come and join in fellowship with Rotarians across the District.

Friday will be a recognition dinner honoring Rotarians who have worked hard to support the District over the last few years. Saturday will be an environmentally- focused day at the Elmwood Park Zoo. I hope to introduce many of you to our Southeastern PA Eco Club. Children are welcome to attend. Finally, Sunday will showcase the Roger Taylor Rotary Speech Contest.

More details of the conference will be emailed over the next few weeks.

I look forward to seeing you there! Thank you for your support and service to Rotary.

David

Response to Earthquake in Türkiye and Syria

"People who have been affected by natural disasters or conflict are standing at the edge of all of the light that they know. In an instant, their life has changed and they've lost everything."

—Jeffry Cadorette, Director, ShelterBox USA, Past Rotary International Director.

A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake and its aftershocks ravaged southern Türkiye (formerly Turkey) and northern Syria beginning on February 6, killing more than 49,000 people and damaging 57,000 homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather.

While still reeling from the impact of the first earthquake, another 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in the same area on February 20, bringing even more devastation. According to Turkish authorities, more than 13.5 million people have been affected and the United Nations high commissioner for refugees estimates that 5.3 million people have been left homeless in Syria.

Theme of the Month: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene

Because Rotary International's theme for March is "Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene," we're highlighting the work of a District Rotarian to bring clean water to Senegal. West Chester Rotary's Dwight Leeper and his old friend Sam Lowry, from Alabama, are seeing their Rotary Global Grant through to completion.

Under this Rotary International Project, five high-tech deep-water hand pumps, called LifePumpsTM, will be installed in communities in the Ninefecha Region of Kedougou Senegal, as selected by the Senegalese Office of Rural Boreholes (L’OFOR).

Your Logo May Be Out of Date

The RI Board of Directors is asking every club to make sure its logo aligns with Rotary’s brand guidelines. At the end of this article, you'll find tools to help you create a new club logo. It's free and easy and takes just a few minutes!

Why is it important to use the correct and current logo? A strong and unified brand helps tell our Rotary story in a clear and consistent way. It lets current and potential members, program participants, donors, and the public know what Rotary is: a global organization of people of action with local connections who do good in the world.

Here are a few important details about club logos:

  1. The club logo is comprised of the Rotary Masterbrand logo (the current wheel and the word Rotary in its official typeface) and the name of the club.
  2. The club name can be above or below the Masterbrand logo.
  3. Never obscure the Rotary wheel, use a partial wheel, or manipulate the wheel in any way.
