Rotary Club of Austin - Tiny Home at Community First

Austin's Village Of Tiny Homes For Formerly Homeless Folks ...The Rotary Club of Austin has a unique opportunity to fund the building of a “tiny home” at Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Community First Village. This nationally acclaimed project has successfully addressed the problem of homelessness for hundreds of people in the Austin area.
With Board and ARCF approval, Past President Harold Benkoski began a pre-pandemic fundraising project to build a “tiny home”. Sponsoring a home, with our Rotary Wheel at the Community First property, shows Austin that we are involved in significant community-building projects, reminds them of our motto “Service Above Self,” and generates awareness of and respect for Rotary.
It's time to see this project to the finish line by the end of this Rotary year – and we can easily do that. Our fundraising goal to complete this project is $30,000, and many Rotary Club of Austin members have already contributed generously. The Austin Rotary Club Foundation (ARCF) is holding specially designated funds of $25,300 (plus pledges), which donors specified can only be spent for the purpose of building a tiny home. YOU can help us get there by contributing any amount before June 30, 2023.
The broader the base of contributions in whatever amount, together with future hands-on work at Community First Village, the greater the sense of Rotary pride and participation in this project.

If you wish to donate to this designated fund, we have a variety of ways you can give. Either mail a check to 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin, TX 78757, give at an upcoming Tuesday meeting via check or pledge card, or pay online with the QR code (please note Community First village in the comments). Whether you contribute money to this project or not, we are all in this together. And together, Rotarians do great things!

Welcome New Member - Pepe Lozano

Welcome Our Newest Member, Pepe Lozano (sponsored by Gabriella Cooper)

Pepe was born and raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, which borders El Paso, where he grew up working in his father's furniture store and learned the value of hard work and helping others. He grew up being a part of Rotary through his grandfather and father. He states, "from a young age, participating in Rotary activities and events gave me the awareness to see the sad disparity in society, meet people in need, and learn that we can help improve our community. It helped me understand the gift of giving to others and treating everyone equally, regardless of their situation."

After grad
uating high school, he studied in Prague for one year and visited many other countries and cultures. He then went to college in Mexico City, visited Austin for a summer, and fell in love with Austin, so he transferred to Texas State University in San Marcos. He obtained his BA in Business Management and then moved to Austin in 2010. Having professional experience in restaurants, real estate, county elections, and the corporate world at Apple, he has returned to his events rental company, Texas Party Rentals & More, which he began in 2013. Pepe is happily married to his wife, Susan, and they have an 18-month-old son, Pepito, and an energetic dog, Cheeto.
