Note from President Kevin & Meeting Recap

Kevin Lynch Rotary Club of Louisville President Last week, we held our first luncheon at the University Club, which just reopened after a 3-year and 4-month COVID hiatus. Adam Watson, co-founder and co-owner of Against the Grain Brewery as well as Education Director at Canopy, will be our main speaker this week. The title of his talk is “How to Become an Interesting Old Man.” By the way, women are invited too! Also, if you’re already an old man, you too are invited.

Events & Opportunities: Wilt Week

By Louis Straub

Independence Bank and St. Matthews Police are spearheading a grass roots effort with the St. Matthews Chamber, City of St. Matthews, St. Matthews Fire and many other businesses and community volunteers to raise money to support Officer Wilt, who was injured in the Old National Bank tragedy. All proceeds will go through the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Officer Wilt Fund. Rotarian Rebecca Grignon-Reker, Executive Director of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, spoke to Officer Wilt's mother and their biggest need right now is a transport vehicle outfitted to his needs, the cost of which is $90,000. If you would like to make a general donation, you can do so HERE. Items are also being collected for an online auction - please scroll down for more information. For more information or to sponsor any of the events listed below, please contact me at lstraub@1776bank.com or Cindy Bailey at cbailey@1776bank.com.

21st Century Learning Sites Grant

By Linda Bartrom-Moore

Walt Kunau and Linda Bartrom were much impressed with the progress and new school year plans unfolding at a hybrid live/Zoom meeting with Yvette Livers, Site Coordinator for Iroquois High School 21st Century Learning Council. Our Rotary Club is a partner in this grant for after-school service and learning opportunities for our West End youth. If anyone would like to speak to any of the clubs Yvette has, that would be so beneficial to these young folks; Delene Taylor and Rick Harned visited last year. Yvette can be contacted at yvette.livers@jefferson.kyschools.us
