Dr. Yelverton B. Hall died on December 19, 2000 in, his home at Westminster Village in West Lafayette, Indiana. "Y.B." was the title by which his friends knew him.

Born on a farm in Montgomery County, Indiana on November 27, 1911, he spent his boyhood in a rural atmosphere and attended high school in New Market, Indiana. His undergraduate education was obtained at Wabash College in Crawfordsville where he was a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity. Always athletic and interested in sports, he won letters in track and basketball. In 1933 he enrolled at the Northwestern University College of Dentistry in Chicago. While there he was a member of the J. V. Black Dental Society.

Following graduation in 1937, he began a dental practice in Lafayette. His marriage to Jane Grantham came on January 13, 1940. The Halls have three children: a son, Thomas Y. of Atlanta, GA; and two daughters, Rebecca J. Null of W. Lafayette; and Marilee Raymond of Clarens, Switzerland. "Y. B." and Jane celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in January 2000.

World War H interrupted his work. He was called to active duty and served as a captain in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Army. In addition to stateside service "Y. B." spent two years overseas with the 41st US Army Field Hospital in the southwest Pacific at such places as New Guinea, Biak Island, and the invasion of the Philippine Islands.

Always active in the Greater Lafayette Community, he was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 11, John Purdue Club, Wabash College Foundation, Indiana State Dental Association, West Central Dental Association, the Chicago Dental Society, the YMCA, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a sixty-year member of Lafayette Jeff Booster Club, Lafayette Country Club and the Lafayette Elks Club as well being a life member of the American Dental Association. He also held basketball tickets at Purdue for sixty years. In 1990 he retired after having practiced dentistry in Lafayette for fifty-three years.

There was a special place in his heart for the Lafayette Rotary Club. He became a member on April 14, 1959 and at the end of November 2000, he had 500 months of perfect attendance. That is more than forty-one and one-half years. In addition to becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, he was active in committee work and especially enjoyed the interaction between Rotary and the Purdue Musical Organizations.

Our good friend, "Y. B." enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. We shall all miss him.
