Celebration of the Life of Dr. William J. Miller Presented by JOEL RASMUS at Rotary Club on December 8, 2015

I should point out that, until recently, there were two Bill Millers in our club. This is a celebration of the life of Dr. William J. Miller, who passed away in St. Louis on October 16. Bill joined our Rotary Club in July of 1969. He remained a member of our club even after he and his wife Marian moved to the St. Louis area to be near their children and grandchildren in 2012. During his 46 years as a member, he worked very hard to maintain his perfect-attendance status, which he accomplished for an impressive span of his membership term.

Over a 50-year career in medicine, Bill witnessed and contributed to tremendous innovation in the field. He introduced state-of-the-art technology in diagnostic radiology to the Greater Lafayette area in the areas of nuclear medicine, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and diagnostic ultrasonography.

Bill was always known for his attention to detail. Rumors are that during his oversight of construction of a new medical facility in Lafayette, he donned a hard hat every evening and visited the site with blueprints in hand. Apparently no deviation from the plan missed his attention.

He was born in Kokomo and was raised on a farm. He graduated from high school at the age of 16, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Purdue in 1956. He later graduated from medical school at Indiana University. Bill also served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Greater Lafayette and the Lafayette Rotary Club were made better by Bill’s vocation and by his interest in his community and the Object of Rotary. We celebrate his life.
