Jean Andres, Coordinator, Kids First, will present “The Kids On the Block Disability Awareness Puppet Show.” Ms. Andres will be introduced by BOB FEUER, substituting for CRAIG IRVINE, Program Coordinator for the month of March.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - DICK HOLTZ 11:15 to 11:45, and LYNN ZACHMANOGLOU 11:45 to 12:15; Greeter - TRUDY TROCHTA; Invocation - JOHN SORENSEN; Music - BRIAN BREED; and no high school guests.

CLUB CONCERNS: Prior to the invocation today, President BOB GRIFFITHS (President BOB) reported : (1) JIM HANKS had received a call from RUTH ST. JOHN, spouse of VIRGIL, indicating that VIRGIL had neck surgery on Tuesday, March 2, 1999, surgery went quite well, and they would be remaining in AZ for several weeks, and (2) DICK WALKER reported that spouse, MARJORIE, had under gone open heart surgery last week at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. President Bob requested members to remember VIRGIL and MARJORIE in their thoughts and prayers as well as LINDA EWING, spouse of KEN, and HUGH STEELE.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PRESIDENT ELECT GENE COURTANEY is starting plans for the 1999-2000 Rotary year. Enclosed is “Committee Selection Sheet”, please complete and return to either President Elect GENE or GRIFF.

CONGRATULATIONS to BILL LOVELL who today was presented his one sapphire lapel pin, emblematic of two Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) awards, by HAROLD MICHAEL, Chair, International Foundation Committee. Each PHF represents a contribution of $1,000.00 to The Rotary International Foundation.

SHOTS NOT SPOTS IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM, Tuesday, March 16, 1999, Home Economics Building, Tippecanoe County Fair Grounds, JEAN JACKSON is Chair. The following spots/needs are: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon - set-up (JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER, HANLY HAMMEL, MIKE KOSMAN, and STEVE MOTT); 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m. (ELAINE CUE, JIM EMERSON, BARB HANSEN, and BRUCE OWENS); 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. (BOB ADAMS, BOB BROCK, GENE COURTANEY, and BILL PAPE); 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. (MILLARD PLUMLEE - still need three Rotarians); and 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. - tear-down (still need two Rotarians to move tables). ANNUAL DINNER (Dinner)- TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 1999 - please remember, no regular Club meeting on this day. The evening starts with an open cash bar at 6:00 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, $25.00 per person, will be on sale Tuesday, March 16th by DALE MC HENRY at the money collection table. Will reserve a table of approximately six - need to leave space(s) for Glee Club members.

PICTURES STILL BEING TAKEN FOR DIRECTORY - CHRIS FUNK will be taking pictures from 11:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the following Tuesdays: March 16th, and March 30th.

GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE) TEAM UPDATE: WALLY TYNER, Chair, lists the following needs: (1) One host family (already has GLENN BOWERS, OSCAR HOPKINS, SUSAN HYCHKA, and WALLY) for four nights (Saturday through Tuesday) and four breakfasts (Sunday through Wednesday); (2) Three to assist MARY HALEY, dinner host - 4/6/99; (3) Two to assist with a.m. Monday professional visits: (4) One to assist with Monday p.m. professional visits to SIA and Lilly; (5) Two to assist with museum and library visits - this one now filled; and (6) Two to assist with other general transportation and logistics. CONGRATULATIONS to BRUCE and PEGGY OWENS on the arrival of a granddaughter, Margaret Zimmer Frerichs, born to Anne (Owens) and Scott Frerichs on February 26, 1999 at Highland Park, IL. Margaret’s announcement was in the form of a “HERE SHE IS” candy bar. Thanks to BRUCE and PEGGY for their contribution to the Rotary Foundation in honor of Margaret Zimmer Frerichs.

ROTARY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

The YWCA Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program is looking for caring people interested in volunteering for its Children’s Program - training is provided. If interested, contact Jennifer at 423-1118; and

Guest Reader at Durgan Elementary School’s “Gobble Up a Good Book” where kindergarten and first grade students along with their parents enjoy story time with a guest reader. CRAIG IRVINE introduced Jean McGroarty, Director of Education, Humane Society (Society) who noted the Society’s: (1) Mission - provide sanctuary for unwanted, lost and neglected animals and strive to fulfill this mission by promoting animal welfare through education and active encouragement of pet population reduction, and (2) Vision - aspire to be part of a community where the supply and demand of pets would be balanced, a community where services would only be needed for education, adoptions, the recovery of lost pets, and limited euthanasia for infirm animals.
