The program today was presented by JIM HANKS, Dennis Dunn, NICK CLARK, and JIM BODENMILLER about The Museums At Prophetstown, Inc. (Museums) which is a huge public/private partnership which includes the State, nearly two dozen Great Lakes Native American Tribes, the Greater Lafayette Community, and corporations, foundations, and individuals from across America. The State Park will be approximately 3,000 acres with 338 acres of that designated for the Museums. In exchange for this acreage the Museums have agreed to raise \$30 million privately over the next five years to build four museums: The Eagle Wing Visitor and Education Center, the Woodland Native American Complex, the Wabash Valley Living History Farm, and the Prophetstown Prairie Environmental Center. Phase #1, lowest in cost at \$6 millions, has already been started with some buildings, plans in progress for the Kampen Eagle Wing Visitor and Education Center, and planting, the past two Springs, of 220 acres of prairie, and planning to plant 44 additional acres next Spring. Phase #2, cost to be \$24 million, hopefully to be completed by 2003. The Lafayette Rotary Foundation Board at their meeting on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 voted to contribute a minimum of $25,000.00, over a five year period, toward the development of a beautifully landscaped oval area which will be named “Lafayette Rotary Plaza ” (Plaza ). The estimated cost of the Plaza is $50,000.00 and it is hoped that Club members and their families will give generously to match the Foundation’s gift. Gifts and pledges for the Plaza may be made over one to five years between 1999 and 2004. Pledges of $250.00 or more will be recognized with a “Footstep In History” placed along the Rotaryi section of Prophetstown’s trails. All members will receive, either handed out at today’s meeting or by mail, information about the Museums and the Plaza with a pledge card; pledge card should be completed and returned to DAVID LANDGREBE in the enclosed addressed envelope. All checks should be made payable to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation with designation for Museums. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of Internal Revenue Service Code. Copies of the poem, “Walk A Little Plainer, Daddy”, that Dennis Dunn offered are available from GRIFF.

MONEY COLLECTOR, CAROLYN JONES, substituting for DICK KOHLS and CHARLOTTE HOWELLS; Invocation by JIM HANKS; Greeting by JO WADE; Singing led by CORKY MITCHELL; and Rotary piano by REX KEPLER.
