ROTARY/PURDUE MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS (PMO) SERVICE ABOVE SELF COMMITTEE :
President GENE provided background and current status of this Committee. An ad hoc committee was appointed and met for
several months to review the Club’s relationship with the Purdue Musical Organizations (PMO).
The ad hoc committee developed a five-point proposal that was approved by the Club Board and BRIAN BREED, Director,
PMO; the five-point proposal was: (#1) Continue with the Annual Dinner; (#2) Club and PMO plan an Annual Community
Fund Raising Event; (#3) Continue with presentation of “Service Above Self Award” and mugs to senior members
of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club (Glee Club) and in the future possibly expand to include all senior members of PMO; (#4)
Club sell PMO tapes, cassettes, and CDs prior to Holiday Season; and (#5) Current and future PMO Directors to be honorary
members of the Club. -
The Rotary/PMO Service Above Self Committee (Committee) was formed (Point #2 above) with the responsibility to annually identify, with Club Board and PMO approval, and conduct an appropriate COMMUNITY FUND RAISING EVENT (Event). This year the Event is entitled “SINGING FOR GREATER LAFAYETTE” and will be held at the Long Center for the Performing Arts (Long Center), Saturday, April 8, 2000, and funds raised will be directed toward the Long Center Restoration Project (it should be noted that this expands the Club’s relationship from only the Varsity Glee Club to include the entire PMO which is composed of five separate musical groups, i.e., Bell Choir, PMO Express, Purduettes, Purdue Varsity Glee Club, and University Choir). JIM HANKS is Chair of this Committee and he and a Steering Committee composed of HANKS, Chair; BREED; BROCK; GRIFFITHS; GENTRY; HOLTZ; MC HENRY; NELSON; and SUDDARTH, have organized the Committee into the following subcommittees: Budget: MC HENRY, Chair; BREED; BROCK; GENTRY; GRIFFITHS; HOLTZ; NELSON; SMITH, K.; and SUDDARTH; Marketing: COLE, Chair; FRED ANDERSON; BOUGH; ARNI COHEN; Bill Farner, Facilities Manager, Long Center; HOPKINS; JOHNSON-HOFFMANN; KOHLS; NAPIER; PARKHURST; Julie Ricciardi, PMO; and WADE; Performance: BREED, Chair; Jae Israel-Kellogg, PMO; and MITCHELL; Printed Program: SUDDARTH, Chair, CHRIS FUNK; and SATTLER; Professional and Business Partners (contact individuals, businesses, corporations, etc. for significant contributions): GENTRY, Chair; DELL; GRIPE; HANCOCK; JEFFARES; KUIPERS; and DAN TEDER; Publicity: HOLTZ, Chair; and JANLE; and After Performance Party (everyone invited to four serving areas, i.e., stage, mezzanine, lower lobby, and St. John Pavilion): MITCHELL, Chair.
