PROGRAM (August 8, 2000)

President DAN introduced District Governor Charles "Chuck" Bragg (DG Bragg), Rotary International District 6560, who made a presentation to the Club as a part of his official Club visit. Prior to this, DG Bragg had met for approximately one hour with Club Officers and Directors reviewing, in a very positive manner, aspects of the various Club committee activities and Officer functions. DG Bragg, in opening his presentation, recognized: (1) Three Past District Governors in attendance - BILL HATFIELD- 1998-99; JOHN MCKEE - 1960-61; and HAROLD TAYLOR - 1975-76; (2) Past Presidents of the Club; and (3) John Rockey, Assistant Governor, who has supervision responsibilities for the Frankfort, Lafayette, Lebanon, and Zionsville Rotary Clubs. He then called attention to Rotary International President Frank J. Devlyn's banner, this banner is to be a prominent part of all of his Club visits, which stressed President Devlyn's Rotary year theme - Create Awareness - Take Action. DG Bragg noted that: (1) A Rotarian's vocation/profession/classification is what Rotary is all about; (2) Rotarians are members of the oldest and most prestigious service Club in the world; and (3) Rotarian's goal should be to show the worthiness of each profession - let everyone know. He challenged the Club to: (1) Increase membership by 5%, increasing membership is one of President Devlyn's goals; (2) Deal with the equity problem in your business/profession; (3) Develop a community awareness regarding drugs, disabilities, literacy, at-risk of adults and children, environmental issues, and the problem of world population. In closing DG Bragg requested Club membership monetary support for the following: (1) $100.00 per member, envelopes will be made available, to The Rotary International Foundation to support the Group Student Exchange, Ambassadorial, and matching grants programs; (2) $5.00 per member for the "Gift of Life" program (bring children from foreign countries to Riley and St. Vincent Hospitals for life saving surgery); (3) $5.00 each for "PolioPlus" (eliminate polio worldwide by 2005); and (4) $10.00 per member for "Sight On Wheels" program (cataract surgery in INDIA where $100.00 will provide cataract surgery for three individuals).
