Prior to the invocation today, President DAN TEDER (President DAN) requested members to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: YB HALL who may have suffered another slight stroke; BOB HIATT; JOHN MC KEE; BEV STONE; and MARJORIE WALKER, spouse of DICK.

CONGRATULATIONS to MARTHA CHISCON who was named a Sagamore of the Wabash and presented an appropriate framed certificate by Sheila Klinker, State Representative, 27th District.

SPEAKERS who have made presentations previously and have received a Rotary wheel are given the alternative of another Rotary wheel or the Club making a $10.00 contribution in their name to an agency of their choice. STAN MITHOEFER on August 15th requested that $10.00 be donated to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation in his name, and today, September 12th, JIM BODENMILLER requested that $10.00 be donated to the Tippecanoe Arts Federation in his name.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Rotarians Considering Proposal of a New Member: The Rotary Education & Information Committee will be conducting Information Sessions (Session) on Tuesday, September 19th (Session conducted by JERRY MC CARTHY and BRUCE OWENS) and Tuesday, September 26th (Session conducted by BRUCE OWENS and JANE TURNER). Both Sessions will be at 11:00 a.m. in the Tailgate Lounge (across from the Registration Desk), University Inn Conference Center and Suites. Potential member must attend a Session similar to these in order to learn more about Rotary and be better prepared to make a choice as to whether to become a Rotarian. Should you be considering the sponsorship of a member, attendance at one of these Sessions would significantly speed up the membership process.

Small Group Dinners: JANE TURNER noted that 18 Rotarians/spouses/special person will be attending the Beef & Boards Dinner Theater on Thursday, September 14th; still two spots available for Thursday, October 5th with CAROL and GRIFF; and still a few spots available with CHERYL BUTCHER and JACK HATCHER on Thursday, November 2nd.

PROGRAM (September 12, 2000)

NELLIE LECHMAN introduced Rotarian JIM BODENMILLER, Commissioner, Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) who made a most interesting presentation. JIM's presentation consisted of three parts: (1) Define the IAC: Established in 1969 as a State agency as a public catalyst, partner, and investor in the arts to serve the citizens of IN by funding, encouraging, promoting, and expanding the arts; Composed of 15 commissioners, appointed by the Governor, whose duties include serving the commission board, committees, moderator of grant review panels, set policies and strategies for the staff to implement (Dorothy Ilgen is Executive Director); and meets quarterly; (2) His role in the IAC: JIM is Secretary of the Commission and serves on several of the Commission committees; and (3) IAC/Tippecanoe Art Federation (TAF) partnership: In 1996 IAC established 12 regions throughout IN and the Regional Partnership Initiative, established to enhance public access, awareness, and enthusiasm for the arts and to ensure equal access to the arts for all residents in all regions of IN; Locally TAF, located in the Wells Community Cultural Center, 638 North Street (3700 sq. ft., three galleries, meeting rooms, storage for member organizations, office space, offers 33 art exhibitions annually, and presents the "Taste of Tippecanoe", an annual summer festival) serves as the Regional Partner for the 4th region which serves a 14 county area; In 1999 art organizations throughout the IN applied to the Regional Partners for the first time � TAF awarded $137,573.00 to arts organizations in the region. JIM closed by noting that in January the IAC launched a strategic planning process to explore potential of the arts as the engine for community, educational, and economic development in IN and to identify how the IAC and its partners can take cultural development to a new level in IN.

HARRISON HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: Julie Cochran and Colby Baker, guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by TERRY WEST. President DAN presented certificates of recognition and Rotary travel mugs (Four-Way Test on them) to Julie and Colby. Information brochures about Ambassadorial Scholarships for future reference will be mailed to them.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Matt Williams and spouse, Karen, guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by BARB DOSTER. Matt was District 6560's Ambassadorial Scholar this past year in Hong Kong.
