UPCOMING PROGRAM (January 9, 2001)

Rotarian LIZ SOLBERG will present a two-part program: (1) "Vision 2020" which she Co-Chairs along with JIM BODENMILLER, and (2) An update on "Railroad Relocation" (LIZ is City Department Head & Project Manager, Lafayette Railroad Relocation). LIZ will be introduced by either President DAN TEDER (President DAN), or by OSCAR HOPKINS, President Elect and Chair, Program Committee.

JANUARY PROGRAMS: BOB BROCK is Program Coordinator for the January 16th, 23rd, and 30th programs.

  • Tuesday, January 9, 2001: Rotarian LIZ SOLBERG, two-part program - (1) "Vision 2020"; and (2) "Railroad Relocation", see above;
  • Tuesday, January 16, 2001: Roger Dickinson, Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame;
  • Tuesday, January 23, 2001: Rotarian TOM PEARSON, "A Traditional Economy: The Challenges Facing Poland"; and

DEEPEST SYMPATHY to the family of YELVERTON B. HALL, known affectionately as YB, who died at 11:07 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2000, in Westminster Village. YB had been a Rotarian since April 14, 1959, was a Paul Harris Fellow, as of the end of November had 500 months (41-1/2 years plus) of continuous 100% attendance, and was active in committee work, particularly with interaction between the Club and the Purdue Musical Organizations. DICK GRIPE will offer a eulogy to YB.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW MEMBER SURVEY: A new member survey will be mailed this week to Rotarians who have become members during the July 1, 1999, to December 19, 2000 period. Your reactions and time to complete and return this survey will be greatly appreciated by the Membership Team, BOB GARRISON, Director and Chair. A SASE will be enclosed for convenience to return the completed survey.

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING/INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS CAMPAIGN - 2000: Fourth report from DAVE LANDGREBE, Treasurer, Lafayette Foundation, regarding contributions - total contributions via the Club - $12,352.00. Talked with BOB MEYER, Major, Salvation Army, this a.m. and his records indicated that the kettles on Saturday, December 16th, the day that Rotarians were "Bell Ringers", contained $5,523.47. Therefore, this would be, thus far, a total of $17,875.47 generated by the Club toward the Salvation Army's Christmas goal.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

NOTES FROM CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING � Monday, December 11, continued from December 19th "Ripples."

Club Board: (4) Task Force is evaluating Secretary's job description as it relates to functions, i.e., continue, delegate, or eliminate; Awaiting survey responses from Big Ten Rotary Clubs, of similar size, regarding their model for the Secretary position; and JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER volunteered to contact the Fort Myers, FL Club while there regarding the survey; (5) Board approved "Lafayette Rotary Club New Member Survey" which will be distributed the week of January 2-5, 2001; (6) Vocational Service Committee met and presented the following program of works to the Club Board: (a) Vocational Service Award is now the "Service Above Self" Vocational Service Award, applications due February 7, 2001; (b) Vocational Scholarship applications are ready to go out to Ivy Tech State College and Indiana Business College, applications due February 15, 2001; (c) Both applications available on the website; (d) Vocational site visits: Select 2 - 3 sites for visits; Start promotion early 2001; Target a visit for March or April; and Sign-up necessary for visit; and (e) Help promote the Purdue Research Foundation/Purdue Technology Job Fair. Club Board review to be continued in January 9th "Ripples."

PROGRAM (December 19, 2000)

KIRK CLARK, Program Coordinator for December, introduced Dr. Andrew Luescher on Tuesday, December 19th; Dr. Luescher made an interesting presentation, using transparencies, regarding modification of animal behavior. GRIFF has a set of Dr. Leuscher's transparencies should anyone wish a copy.
