UPCOMING PROGRAM (February 26, 2002)

Rotarian BETTY DOVERSBERGER, Chancellor, Ivy Tech State College, will be the speaker; her presentation will be entitled "Adding Sizzle to the Steak."

PRESIDENT OSCAR HOPKINS, requested members/spouses to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: BEVERLY HOPKINS; JOHN AND EUDORA MC KEE; ED PAGE; FAE SPURLOCK; BEV STONE; HARLAND WHITE; and Jay Wiley, son of JAY WILEY.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - FRED ANDERSON - 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., and JIM FOSTER - 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Greeter - JOE MICON; Invocation - JIM HOBBS; Music - GREG DEASON; and Vocational guest(s) - Ivy Tech State College and/or Indiana Business College.

PROGRAM (February 19, 2002)

PRESIDENT OSCAR introduced DAN HEMAN, who in turn introduced Dr. Tom Mattingly, Daybreak Rotarian, who made a most interesting presentation about "Daybreak Rotary's Medical Mission to INDIA." Dr. Tom was accompanied on this mission by Daybreak Rotarians Connie Lux, Midge Keller, and Mike Wadsworth. These four also remarked about their experiences while in INDIA. Connie Lux put together a very neat video presentation that was shown to the Club. Dr. Tom, Connie, Midge, and Mike closed with a Q and A session. In lieu of Rotary wheels each requested that a donation be made to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation.

VISITING ROTARIANS: Ken Decker, South Bend Downtown; Connie Lux, Tom Mattingly, Speaker; Midge Keller, and Mike Wadsworth, all from Daybreak. Midge Keller prepared a journal of their trip and it is available by contacting Midge or GRIFF.

MAKE UPS: LAURIE BROSE, Crawfordsville.

VISITORS: Ronda Walsh Schwab, guest of GRIFF; Mukhabbat Beknaarova, attorney from Tajkistan, guest of BARB REIF.

MC CUTCHEON HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: Rachael Henson and Scott Anderson, hosted by LINA REEVES-KERNER. President OSCAR presented certificates of recognition, brochures about Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships, and a Rotary Travel Mug (4-Way Test on it) to Rachael and Scott.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - FRED ANDERSON and JIM FOSTER; Invocation by SUSAN SMITH; Greeting by MARIELLEN NEUDECK; Singing led GREG DEASON; Rotary piano by REX KEPLER; and Free Meals Drawing - GORDON CHAVERS and MORGAN BURKE. Thanks to JO WADE who assisted at the Secretary's table.

CLUB CONCERNS

THANKS TO BARB HANSEN; SUSAN HYCHKA; TIM LUZADER; PAUL POST; FRANCIS PRITSCHER; GREG REGER, and BETTY SUDDARTH for assisting with the Purdue Research Park Job Fair held on Monday, February 5, 2002. Thanks to these Club members representing Rotary at this Vocational Project Committee activity.

ROTARY INFORMATION SESSION FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS (all prospective members must attend such a session) by JANE TURNER, Information Committee, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26th, Board Room, University Inn and Conference Center. Please let GRIFF know ahead of time if you are proposing a prospective member so that information materials may be prepared.

GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE) OPPORTUNITY: Date of arrival, names, and vocations of the GSE Team are now available. This information will be provided in "Ripples" during the next few weeks so that hosts with similar vocations may be identified.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SINGING FOR GREATER LAFAYETTE (SGFL): DAVID BOUGH, President-elect and Chair, SGFL, would like to complete the SGFL project for 2002. He would like to have a post concert evaluation meeting immediately after the Club meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, Tailgate Lounge, University Inn Conference Center and Suites. He would like SGFL Committee members, a representative from the Purdue Musical Organizations (PMO), and Cumberland Place Exhibition Center, as well as Rotarians who attended the event to discuss and evaluate for next year. PLEASE ATTEND THIS IMPORTANT MEETING.

ANNUAL DINNER COMMITTEE MEETINGS: BETTY SUDDARTH, Vice President and Chair, Annual Dinner Committee, has scheduled meetings for this Committee for the following Tuesdays: February 26th, March 19th, April 16th, and April 30th. Meetings will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Tailgate Lounge, University Inn. Committee members include: BRIAN BREED (or PMO Representative); LEONA COHEN; JIM HANKS; JAN GRIFFIN-KOEHLER; DALE MC HENRY; KATHY MEEKS; ERIC MURPHY, GREG NAPIER; PARKIE PARKHURST; BARRIE SIMPSON; STEVE STUCKEY; AND PAUL ZIEMER.

A EULOGY to DOUG BRANIGIN was presented by DAN TEDER.

DISTRICT 6560 CONFERENCE April 26, 27, and 28, 2002 at French Lick, IN. The Conference will be with District 6580 (Southern third of the State). Registration forms and other information will be available at the Secretary's table. For the past several years the Conference has been held in the District, but this year it will be at French Lick. Overnight rooms at the French Lick Hotel are $89.00 and a block of rooms will be held for the Conference until March 15th, 2002.

LAFAYETTE ROTARY CLUB "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" VOCATIONAL SERVICE AWARD NOMINATION - by ELSA JANLE, Member "Vocational Service Award Committee": Nomination forms are available from Committee members (STAN MITHOEFER, Chair; ELSA JANLE; JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER; TOM SCHMIDT; and JENNIFER SHANAHAN; or at Secretary's table).

ANOTHER CORRECTION to the JANUARY 100% Club Report in the February 5th "Ripples": BOB ADAMS has 116 months of continuous 100% attendance instead of the listed 46. Sorry BOB.

VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS: TOM SCHMIDT, Chair, Vocational Scholarships Committee, has forwarded letters and four copies of the Vocational Scholarship application form to BETTY DOVERSBERGER, Chancellor, Ivy Tech State College, and GREG REGER, Executive Director, Indiana Business College stating, "The Lafayette Rotary Club, through their continuing generosity to students in our community, is offering scholarships for vocational students. Four scholarships of $400.00 each will be awarded on Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the noon meeting of the Club." These scholarships will be given to students from Ivy Tech State College and Indiana Business College. An application copy, if desired, may be acquired from either TOM or GRIFF.
