86th ANNUAL DINNER with the Purdue Varsity Glee Club under the direction of BRIAN BREED will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in the Grand Ballroom of the
University Inn - Cash Bar at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 6-30 p.m. A significant part of the Club's costs related to the Dinner are the cost of meals provided to the Glee
Club and spouses of deceased Rotarians, and Ambassadorial Scholars. Please consider financial assistance to sponsor one, two, or more of the Club's guests
even if you are unable to attend the Dinner on May 7th. Your support is needed and appreciated. Also, please remember no regular Club meeting on this day; the
Dinner takes the place of the regular meeting. Celebrate Rotaryl Tickets for the 86th Annual Dinner are $25.00 per person.
PROGRAM (April 23, 2002) PRESIDENT OSCAR Introduced Mike Frudd, Team Leader, GSE Team from Rotary
International District #9200, South Africa) - Mike presented each member of the Team and each presented information about themselves - a most interesting program. The Team members were as follows: Mike Frudd, Team Leader, age 59 (Zimbabwe): Is the retired senior partner of Price Waterhouse Coopers, Central Africa. He now
carries out general business consulting and is a director of several large Zimbabwean enterprises. He is a member and past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe and a
member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. Menzintando "Mabs" Maboyl (Zimbabwe), Team Member, age 30:
Schooled in Zimbabwe and then attended Rhodes University in South Africa where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1994, a Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1997 and postgraduate
Diploma in International Studies in 1997. He started his professional career in 1998 practicing civil, criminal and commercial law with Caiderwood, Bryce Hendrie & Partners, a law
firm in Bulawayo. After completing his conversion examinations, Mabs was admitted to the Bar as an attorney of the High Court of Zimbabwe in
1999. In 2001 Mabs moved to his current laws firm, Gill, Godionon & Gerrans in Harare. Mabs has a keen interest in all sports, but has a particular passion for
rugby, which he still plays competitively. His other passion is for the gym where he is an instructor in weight training, step aerobics and spinning. Chlara Chiumya, Team Member, age 29 (Zambia): Chlara is a Certified Accountant and a Senior Inspector in the Financial
System Supervision Department of the Bank of Zambia, the Zambian Central Bank. She attended the University of Warwick, Coventry, ENGLAND where she graduated with a BSc (Honors) in
Management Science in 1992. She then completed a course at Thames University in Slough, ENGLAND as an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants graduate and was admitted as a
member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1998. She then attended the Birmingham Business School at the University of Birmingham,
ENGLAND where she graduated with an MBA in International Banking and Finance in 1999. She was admitted as an associate member of the Zambia Institute of
chartered Accountants in 2001. Chlara worked as a trainee manager with a Zambian bank and then joined Price Waterhouse Coopers as an audit senior before moving
to the Bank of Zambia where she is involved in the analysis of individual bank financial statements and prudential returns in order to assess the financial
conditions and performance of the financial sector. She is also involved in the drafting and review process of various pieces of legislation and now monitors
financial institutions to ensure that they comply with relevant legislation and guidelines and adhere to safe and sound practice. Outside of her professional life
she has a four-year-old daughter, Kalena, who takes up much of her leisure time. She enjoys traveling and is fascinated by the diversity of people and their cultures; Ingrid Landman, Team Member (Zimbabwe), age 36: Ingrid is a medical doctor who started and now runs the Well Woman Clinic
in Harare, Zimbabwe and is an HIV Clinician. She received her schooling in Zimbabwe after which she participated in a Rotary Youth Exchange visit to Wisconsin in 1983. She attended the
University of Cape Town in South Africa graduating in 1989. She completed internships at the famous Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town and then in Pediatrics at the Red Cross Hospital and in
Obstetrics at the Somerset Hospital, both in Cape Town. She returned to Zimbabwe in 1992 and worked as a doctor for the Harare City Council Health Department
before going into General Practice from 1995 to 1997. She left General Practice to start the Well Woman Clinic, the first in Zimbabwe. Ingrid's special interests are
health empowerment and the development of the health profession, particularly in the arenas of women's health and HIV. She works tirelessly in fighting the HIV
pandemic in Zimbabwe where a very large percentage of the population are HIV positive. And, is working with colleagues on the implementation and practical
outworking of the widespread use of antiretroviral medication in Zimbabwe; and Tamara Moana, Team Member (Zimbabwe), age 32: Tamara is a
commercial lawyer who is working as an advisor to the Zimbabwean Government Privatization Agency on its privatization programme. She attended the University of Zimbabwe where she
graduated in 1992. She started her professional career in 1993 practicing civil, criminal and commercial law with a law firm in Harare. She is admitted and registered with the High Court,
Harare, and the law Society of Zimbabwe as Legal Practitioner, Notary Public and Conveyancer. She then attended the London School of Economics where she graduated with a Master of Laws degree in 1998. Currently
Tamara enjoys traveling, sports, reading, and socializing with friends and family, and is a member of Trinity Methodist Church and children's teaching leader for Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) International.
JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: ERIN VAN HORN and BENJAMIN BERANEK were guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by LINA REEVES-KERNER. President OSCAR presented certificates of recognition,
information brochures about Ambassadorial Scholarships for future reference, and noted that Rotary Travel mugs (Four-Way Test on it) will be mailed to Erin and Benjamin.
