ANNOUNCEMENTS
SMALL GROUP DINNER, Wednesday, June 12th, at FRITZ and LEONA COHEN's residence, 2102 Old Oak Drive, West Lafayette. Cost is $8.00 per person; if you are interested, please contact MARTHA CHISCON for reservation(s). ROTARY CONCERNS: ROTARY "Ripples" As noted above, GRIFF will be laid up for a few days and composition, duplication, and distribution of "Ripples" for perhaps
a few weeks, I hope not, will be affected. The composition, duplication, and distribution have been the topic of discussion by the Executive Committee and
Board of Directors. There was consensus of both the Committee and Board that they wanted to continue with the weekly "Ripples." The following tentative and perhaps continuous distribution are being pursued.
- COMPOSITION: President OSCAR and President Elect DAVID BOUGH have been contacting two or three other Rotarians to determine whether they would do this;
- DUPLICATION: making approximately 265 copies from the composed hard copy on a copier;
- DISTRIBUTION: to be two ways: a) Electronically with CHRIS FUNK continuing to place the composed hard copy on the web page; and b) Copies on the Secretary's table at the next regular Club meeting.
In the meantime President OSCAR and President Elect DAVE are accepting names of individuals who would be interested in becoming Club secretary, salary is
$400.00 per month - hourly amount is quite low. It would be an excellent way for someone to make a very worthwhile contribution to the Club. GRIFF has been doing
"Ripples" since July 1980 when he followed Curt Hostetter as Secretary, Curt was Secretary for 25 years, so one doesn't need to worry about being replaced too often. CONGRATULATIONS TO BOB VERPLANK who was introduced by President OSCAR as the Club's Rotarian of the year and was
presented a certificate of recognition and a plaque. President OSCAR noted the following regarding BOB: (1) BOB BROCK's paper boy; (2) Active in the Greater Lafayette Community; (3) Chair
of several Greater Lafayette Community fund raising activities; (4) Very active in the construction of PMO/Rotary Habitat for Humanity house this fall; and (5) 100% attendance for 445 continuous months.
PLEASE NOTE: After 40 years GRIFF is no longer employed at Purdue. This past weekend Rotary materials were moved from his office in Stewart Center to the
Rotary office located in the Cinergy PSI building, 621 North 3d Street - telephone 423-9813, and I don't think there is a voice mail. Therefore, should you want to
contact GRIFF and there is no answer at 423-9813, call his home at 474-5596 and leave a message. The Rotary International Year ends on June 30th. The Lafayette Rotary Club
International Foundation Committee is asking each Rotarian to consider a Rotary year-end gift to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Use a contribution of
$200.00 to add to your Paul Harris Sustaining membership, or to complete qualification for a Paul Harris Follow. Make checks either of two ways: (1) Preferred
way is to make them payable to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation and provide specific information in the memo section of your check, i.e., Paul Harris Sustaining
Membership or Paul Harris Follow Award; or (2) Make checks payable to The Rotary Foundation of R.I. and provide specific information in the memo section of
your check, i.e., Paul Harris Sustaining membership or Paul Harris Follow Award. Regardless of to whom you make the check payable, it is important that the
check(s) be mailed to DAVID LANDGREBE, Treasurer, Lafayette Rotary Foundation, 1633 Western Drive, West Lafayette, IN 47906. If checks are made
payable to The Rotary Foundation of R.I., it will be recorded in the Lafayette Rotary Foundation data base, and forwarded directly to The Rotary International
Foundation, and if the check is made payable to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation, the check will be recorded in the Lafayette Rotary Foundation data bass and
forwarded to The Rotary Foundation of R.I. Please try to do this before June 25th to give DAVID time to assemble the checks and information to forward to Rotary
International (R.I.) in time to get Rotary year-end credit for you and our Club. Remember, your gift to this Foundation funds international programs including
PolioPlus, International Scholars and Group Study Exchange, to mention a few. Also included are contributions to fund matching grants, such as the Dubey Eye Clinic and others. PROGRAM (June 4, 2002) PRESIDENT OSCAR introduced JIM BODENMILLER who introduced today's speaker, Sharon Smith Theobald. Sharon is
President, Appraisal Associates International, who has spent the past two years appraising Purdue University's collections. Sharon made a most interesting presentation consisting of a walking tour

the Amelia Earhart collection (largest single repository in the entire world) and the John McCutcheon collection of Chicago Tribune cartoons as being most outstanding. Sharon closed with a Q and A session.
