Tuesday, July 9, 2002 - "New Happenings at the Senior Center" Helen Dillon, Executive Director, Tippecanoe Senior Center.

JULY 9th MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - GORDY YOUNG - 11:15 to 11:45a.m., and - 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Greeter - PHIL KLINKER; Invocation - JOE MICON; and Music - GREG NAPIER.

JAN GRIFFIN-KOEHLER is July's program chair.

  • July 16 - "Junior Achievement Programs Are Growing" Kathy Stewart, Program Manager, Junior Achievement of Greater Lafayette.
  • July 23 - "The Hearts N Parks Initiative", VICKI MAYES, Superintendent, Lafayette Parks & Recreation Department.
  • July 30 - "Sounds of the Youth Orchestra", Alfred Abel, Conductor, will speak and they will have a flute quartet entertain us!

CLUB CONCERNS

PRESIDENT OSCAR HOPKINS, requested members/spouses to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: GRIFF (who is doing much better this week, he had his right knee replaced Wednesday, June 5, 2002).  JOHN and EUDORA MC KEE; ED PAGE; FAE SPURLOCK; BEV STONE; HARLAND WHITE; and Jay Wiley, son of JAY WILEY. MARGERY ISMAIL (who is in rehab at Home Hospital after hip replacement June 26, 2002).  BUD BAUGH (who was able to go home on Monday after having back surgery June 27, he won't even need to go through rehab).  GORDON KINGMA had a slight stroke while driving out to Virginia Beach to visit his daughter, his daughter drove them back home and he is doing fine.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ROTARY "Ripples" The Executive Committee and Board of Directors have decided "Ripples" will no longer be mailed, but sent to you electronically with a few copies available at the secretary's table at Rotary meetings.

PLEASE NOTE: The Rotary office is now located in the Cinergy PSI building, 621 North 3d Street - telephone 423-9813, there is voice mail there now.

PROGRAM (July 2, 2002)

The gavel was passed today from now Past President OSCAR HOPKINS to President DAVE BOUGH.  Retiring President OSCAR reviewed the highlights of his past Rotary year and thanked all for their help.  Incoming President Elect DAVE thanked Oscar, especially with a tough year and outlined his goals for the 2002-2003 Rotary year. OSCAR was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow, a plaque and a diamond pin. President Elect DAVE thanked the club for supporting him with his trip to the Rotary International Convention in Barcelona and spoke of his honor to be our Rotary president in the upcoming 2002-2003 Lafayette Rotary year.

VISTING ROTARIAN: Ed Elliott from the Naples FL.

VISITORS: JIM SMITH's son Jay Smith was a guest and a VISITING ROTARIAN from DAYBREAK. Drew Koch from Purdue was guest of MARNE HELGESEN. JON HUSTON guest's today was his son Matthew Huston. OSCAR HOPKINS guest today was his wife Beverly and DAVE BOUGH's guest was his wife Adrienne. 

FREE MEALS: Neither of the of the free meal drawing Rotaries were able to be with the club today - MARGERY ISMAIL & CHRISTY SMITH.

BIRTHDAY TABLE: CHRISTA KECK announced the JULY Birthday Rotarians today subbing for SUSAN HYCHKA (whose mother-in-law had a heart attack, so she was unable to be at the meeting today).  As of the end of the meeting on Tuesday $1658.00 had been collected so far as gifts from July Rotarians to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation.

THANK YOUS

Thanks yous were received from: Lafayette Parks Foundation for the gift of $550; from Junior Achievement for the $550; from Girl Scouts of Sycamore Council for the $450 contribution and from GRIFF and Carol Griffith for the flowers for GRIFF's surgery.
