In June the Lafayette Rotary Foundation awarded grants to Lafayette Family YMCA ($550), Lafayette Parks Foundation, Inc. ($550), Junior Achievement ($550), The
Arc of Tippecanoe County ($550), Girl Scouts of Sycamore Council, Inc. ($450) totaling $2,650. Thank you notes have been received from several of these organizations.
Journalism Scholarships were awarded to Lafayette Jefferson High School (1 student @ $400), West Lafayette High School (4 students at $150 each), Harrison High School (4 students @ $150) for a total of $1,600.
A very expressive Thank You note has been received from Landon Newby for his Thomas F. Moran Scholarship.
PROGRAM (August 13, 2002) JANE TURNER introduced BOB GRIFFITHS whose topic is on everyone's minds these days - the Stock Market. He redefined some well-known abbreviations for us
(CEO - Chief Embezzlement Officer, CFO - Corporate Fraud Officer, PE - Parole Eligible, etc.) and shared statistics showing the results of bear markets over the past 40 years.
BOB introduced new Rotarian RONDA WALSH SCHWAB who presented rules of thumb for investing (have a plan, stick to quality, diversify) and JIM KLUZMAN
who shared thoughts of professional money managers on the current state of the markets. Thanks to all three for a most interesting program. VISITING ROTARIANS: Jay Smith from the Daybreak Club.
