September 18, 2002 at Angel Hill Golf Course, Rossville, to raise funds to eradicate polio. Registration Deadline has been extended. Entry fee: $50.00 per person New Directories are available. Please pick up yours.
DAVE BOUGH introduced Assistant District Governor FRED BRAMES from the Indianapolis Rotary Club who presented R.I.'s Eradicate Polio Program. $80 million
is needed to reach the goal of a polio free world. He encouraged each member to give $100 to this effort. NEW MEMBERS PROPOSED: Jack and Leta Kelley have been approved by the
Board of Directors to become members of our Rotary Club. If there are no objections, they will be introduced September 17, 2002. ROTARY logo or souvenir items purchased to provide a display for the Board of
Directors to choose from will be available for sale at meetings beginning September 10th. First come, first served. Don't miss this opportunity to own a license plate, a
paperweight, a framed 4-Way Test, or a set of mugs sporting the Rotary. PROGRAM (September 10, 2002)
Prior to hearing today's speaker, the club was treated to the vocal performance of Mary Jane Gregan, music teacher at Burnett Creek Elementary School. On the eve of the first anniversary of
September 11th, Mary Jane sang God Bless America. Then she performed her own composition, Towers of Tomorrow, a very inspirational song which portrayed America's children as the
country's hope for the future.PHIL KLINGER introduced his wife, Nancy Klinger, who gave a
most interesting program on her experience with polio. She fell ill as a child, was totally paralyzed, spent time in an iron lung in Riley Hospital in Indianapolis and recovered. Speaking on behalf of
the 300,00 survivors of polio, she says they all tough and have a strong desire to repay for the life they have been given. Fifty percent have continued to suffer with post polio syndrome.
Rotary's efforts to conquer polio, gives us all hope. Nancy requested that the cost of a Rotary Wheel be donated to the Eradicate Polio program.
