thoughtful gift of chrysanthemums. They are beautiful, and have brought me great enjoyment. My physical therapist tells me that the goal is to get me off crutches in 10 days, so things are looking up. Hope to see you

next dinner will be Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Oscar and Bev Hopkins' home at 6:30 P.M. The cost is $8.00 per person. Reservations may be made by contacting Martha Chiscon. Watch for an Eradicate Polio Raffle to
begin in the next week or two. It is a 50/50 Raffle where half will go to Eradicate Polio and half will go to a drawing in our club. It is hoped that this will be a fun fundraiser! ROTARY logo or souvenir items

PHIL KLINGER introduced Dr. BLAINE BROWNELL, President of Ball State University, former History Professor at Purdue and a Rotarian, who spoke to us about the importance to the State of
Indiana of building better communities and the many ways Ball State University, is working to make that happen. Indiana has led the nation in job loss, dropping from 17th to 33rd. Vissionery
Leadership, World Class Educational Systems, Viberent Economic Activity and Technological Infrastructure are needed to build better communities. Ball State is helping communities (including West
Lafayette) to start Charter Schools, assessing communities to stop the brain drain, and reaching out with applied research to make communities more attractive to business and to improve Indiana's economy.
