MORGAN BURKE pointed out that they both have a love for young people and work hard off the court. Kristy Curry, in her fourth year as coach of the women's team, told us she has a young, healthy
team. She looks forward to practices, which include four Indiana players. She reviewed the experienced players and invited everyone to come to Mackey Madness this Saturday evening.
Kristy introduced the "Dean of Big 10 Coaches", Gene Keady, who said the team was going back to the old ways of operating. The recruiting style changed; honest
reviews of players every two weeks has been reinstated, positive reinforcement and yelling at team members are back. He reminds players that "family is first" (Purdue
family). Injuries are a problem, but with improved intensity, stability of staff and a good schedule, there is hope for a good season. After a review of the players he
answered a few questions from the audience relating to conference competitors and rules changes (none). VISITING ROTARIANS: ED ELLIOTT from Naples FL.; DEBBIE CALDER from

SINGING FOR GREATER LAFAYETTE UPDATE After the October 8th meeting where a question was raised about the income and
expenses of Singing For Greater Lafayette, it was hoped this explanation from Dave Bough might be helpful:As chair of SFGL event last year, I want to clear up any questions that may be
lingering after the Foundation presentation last week. The Foundation received $6,920 from the Singing for Greater Lafayette concert at
Cumberland Place. That represented the accumulated tax deductible portion of each ticket sold. Of that amount, $200 was given to each of the participating High
School Choral Departments (Harrison and West Side) and $200 to Harrison Art Dept for supplying the Art Display in the foyer as a token of our Club's appreciation.
The remaining $6,320 is being used to boost our Rotary High School Scholarship awards from $8,000 to $10,000 for three years - hence the reason for increased amounts this past April.
PMO did not bill the club for its services for the performance. The reason SFGL was discontinued is basically three continuous years of poor Club
and public support. The first two years at the Long Center and this year at Cumberland, audience size has been very disappointing despite radio and
newspaper advertising. Add in the fact that less than half the Club members buy tickets to support such hard work by the SFGL committee and PMO, the
committee and PMO (Brian Breed and Julie Ricciardi) felt that for all the effort, with limited support from the very members of the Club sponsoring the event, we couldn't justify continuing any longer. |
