ANNOUNCEMENTS TOM SCHMIDT announced that tickets
for the Annual Dinner are on sale. Mark your calendar for 6:00 P.M. on May 13th. Ticket price is $25.00.The Raffle for Eradicate Polio brought in $96.00 today. $48.00 goes to the Rotary
International Eradicate Polio Fund. $24.00 went to the winning ticket holder (LETA KELLEY who donated it to Polio Eradication), and $24.00 was added to the kettle for the person who draws the Ace of Spades.
BETTY SUDDARTH announced that committee sign-up sheets for next year are on the tables today. There are two new committees: Family of Rotary and Rotaract. International Understanding Committee was left off. It involves
setting up activities with International students at Purdue. Please rank your choices and we will try to put you on your first choices. The Paul Harris luncheon in Indianapolis is Thursday, May 15 at the
St. Vincent Martin House. Cost: $20.00 per person. See DAVE BOUGH for details. Rotary International President BHICHAI RATTAKUL will be speaking to the Indianapolis Rotary Club on May 6th
at the Indianapolis Athletic Club. Please see JANE or DAVE if you want to make a reservation. TOM MORAN announced that the badge box is being restored and reorganized to resemble alphabetical order. Next
week you will need to spend an extra moment finding your badge. Anne Harrigan, invited us to attend the Lafayette Symphony Concert this weekend. June is set aside as "Take an Intern or Doctoral
Candidate to Rotary Month." For the four Tuesdays in June, you are asked to bring an intern or Doctoral candidate working with you to Rotary, pay for their lunch, introduce them to the club, with a little information on
their work and education, and introduce the club and its workings to them. With this introduction the person will have knowledge of Rotary when he or she gets into the workplace. There will be a flyer on the workings of
Rotary to give them. If you know that you will have an intern or Doctoral Candidate to bring to a June meeting, please let DAVE LAHR or JANE know in advance so we can have a badge ready when you arrive.

Dorothy Light has completed an information session and has been approved by the Board of Directors to become a member. She will be introduced to the
Club in the near future. PROGRAM MARGERY ISMAIL introduced Dr. Kamyar Haghighi, professor of
Engineering at Purdue since 1986, who gave us a brief overview of the cultures and history of the Middle East. Born in a Muslim family in Iran, he described the rise of Political Islam and
nationalism after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The current situation is much more complex than the simple explanations often heard, i.e., clash of civilizations, good versus evil, and blaming Islam.
