Volume 88, Number 49 - June 24, 2003 This
week's meeting was conducted from back to front. After ringing the bell, DAVE BOUGH said, "The meeting is adjourned." What followed is reflected here until the bell rang again after singing the Star Spangled Banner.
Your not as clever editor will write the Ripples in the normal order. NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM Thanks to DAVE BOUGH and welcome to BETTY SUDDARTHMEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - MARTHA CHISCON - 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., and PAUL POST - 11:45 a.m.

CLUB CONCERNS PRESIDENT DAVE BOUGH, requested
members/spouses to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: JOHN and EUDORA MC KEE; ED PAGE; FAE SPURLOCK; Marjorie spouse of DICK WALKER, BOB BROCK, ROY WHISTLER AND TOM MORAN who fell off a ladder last week
and is recovering at Home Hospital. ANNOUNCEMENTS TERRY WEST reported that District Governor HUGH BAKER mentioned some disturbing news at a recent Ambassadorial Scholars meeting. To date our District has donated only $114,000
to RI this year, exclusive of the Polio Plus program. Usually the District donates in excess of $ 200,000 per year. In several years, RI gives back one-half of this to the District for various projects including the
Ambassadorial Scholars program. This means that in two years the District will really be strapped for funds. HUGH asked that we try to contribute some more money to the Paul Harris funds and have our correspondence post
marked no later than Monday June 30. It would be a shame to have to eliminate the Ambassadorial Scholars program in light of our phenomenal success in nominating the District scholar in the past five years. Those with
Birthdays in July may want to contribute early in order to help the program this year.Anyone wishing to see personal contact information destined for the new Directory may contact DAVE LANDGREBE at David.Landgrebe@verizon.net. He will e-mail it back for your review. The deadline for changes is June 30th.
District Governor KAREN BLUE will be here July 8th. All Board Members and Committee Chairs are to meet with her at 10:30 in the Purdue Room at University Inn. Please mark your calendars and be ready to report
on your committee's plans for the new year. If you would like an Indiana ROTARY license plate, please see JANE for forms. SMALL GROUP DINNER Thursday, June 26th,

10 6 at the Fairgrounds. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. Or you can contact SANDY PEARLMAN. CONGRATULATIONS
JIM TURLEY recognized DON BIDDLE, a first time PAUL HARRIS FELLOW, BILL HEATH, for his second PHF and VIRGIL ST. JOHN for his third PHF. The club appreciates your generosity, as does the Rotary world.
THANK YOU
Dear Betty (Doversberger):What a wonderful gift from the Lafayette Rotary Club Youth Committee! Though too much time has passed for a simple thank you, I wanted to update you on our scholarship program. This year, two (2) children were enrolled in youth classes and one young adult is a part of our most recent Improv class due to scholarships. Six (6) children will be
attending summer camps on scholarships. In the meantime, several additional families have asked for scholarship applications.
None of this would be possible without your support. Please accept Civic's sincere gratitude for your assistance. I can tell you it truly made a difference in the lives of these individuals. Best regards,
Susan Kisinger, Managing Director Civic Theater PROGRAM JIM HANKS wrote a very clever poem to introduce MIKE PIGGOTT
and to bid PRESIDENT DAVE BOUGH farewell. MIKE, known to most of us as the news director and anchor at WLFI-TV, is now Director of Community Relations at Purdue University. This
position gives him the opportunity to be part of the "harmonic convergence" of Two Great Cities, One Great University this slogan the result of a branding process for our community.
Converging to make this a great place are: 1) We're a can-do town, 2) Vision 2020 is a historic coming together in this can-do town, 3) The whole engagement effort by
Purdue (the 800 pound gorilla) proves a willingness to be part of the can-do town with a vision! News flashes:
- A proposal for HUD funding of a Community Outreach Partnership Center was submitted today.
- Redesigned billboards reflecting the new community image (Two Great Cities, One Great University) will appear north and south of the cities.
- Purdue is still involved in the 4th of July celebration. This year's entertainment and fire works will be extra special.
