WARREN STEVENSON announces there will be a meeting of the
Community Service Projects Committee in the Tailgate Lounge at 11:20
next week, September 23rd. Plan to be there!
PROGRAM:
President BETTY introduced the Chairman of our Lafayette Rotary
Foundation, TOM PEARSON, who called to order the 30th Annual Meeting
of the Lafayette Rotary Foundation. He reported on the year's activities,
announced that scholarship amounts for high school seniors and
vocational students have been increased, explained that $2,000 per year
will be returned to the club for use by the Club's Funds Request
Committee, and informed us that the revised Foundation By-laws provide
for a two year rotation for Chair and Vice-Chair. A sizeable gift from the
Beverley Stone Trust has been received and the board will remember her
interest in youth and young professional development when making
decisions about its use.
TOM presented a plaque to STEVE THOMPSON (Photo at the left) thanking him for his
service as President of the Lafayette Rotary Foundation Board for 16
years.
Certificates were presented to (Above L to R) LEW RUNNELS, VIRGIL ST. JOHN and
BETTY SUDDARTH and will be mailed to MIKE KING, BUTCH HANCOCK
and Mrs. Lyn Treece (no photo) recognizing their contributions to our local foundation.
The Annual Financial Report was reviewed. TOM MORAN moved with a
second by HARLEY FREY that the report be approved as presented.
Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned.
TOM introduced fellow Rotarian DICK BARTHOLOMEW, CPA and
attorney, who made a very interesting presentation concerning "Almost
Painless Charitable Giving". He explained the different tax advantages,
discussed trusts and summarized by saying that Uncle Sam helps us to
underwrite charitable giving.
Committee sheets are available at the back table or on-line. They are still a work
in progress and if you notice changes that need to be made, please contact me.
If you are receiving RIPPLES by e-mail and would prefer to receive them by
snail-mail, please let me know.
Now that committees are meeting, make-up credit can be given if committee
chairs will report attendance to me by e-mail or bringing a list to the next meeting.
If you find anything regarding you that needs to be corrected in the new Directory
(i.e., employer, position, e-mail, spouse's name, etc.), please contact me or
DAVE LANDGREBE. We are now working with one database instead of two,
making it easier to keep updated and accurate records. Information that was
correct in last year's directory was in Chris Funk's database and not necessarily
in the one we are currently using. We can update as we go so that next year's
directory will be correct.
There is concern that some members are not able to see the Lafayette Rotary
website. If you have the page bookmarked or in your "favorites" list, you will
need to delete it. Go to the Rotary web page (www.lafayetterotary.org) and
bookmark it again. There has been a tiny change made concerning the
mysteries of computer technology, which helped us to keep the site going and
manageable. If you have trouble connecting to the Ripples page from the link
sent in the e-mail message, please contact
BRUCE HARDING for help.
