    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • BETTY thanked the club for help on the Salvation Army project. She especially thanked ANN PIECHOTA for her work, which was followed by applause.

    • The Youth Committee of the Lafayette Rotary Club is currently accepting application letters from agencies serving youth for summer recreational programs and camp scholarships. Interested organizations should send a letter of request by March 1, 2004 to:

    • ELSA JANLE announced that nominations are being accepted for the Vocational Service Award. Nominations are due by Feb 28 and should be sent to ELSA or JANE.

    • The Community Service Committee distributed forms asking for members' ideas for Service Projects. Please return these to Stella Batagiannis.

    • JEFF DARLING, representing the Vocational Committee, introduced Andrea Wellnitz with the West Lafayette Mayor's Youth Council. She introduced Ruchika Agrawal and Nick Carson, who described their many activities. Ruchika and Nick received mugs in appreciation for their visit with us today.

    PROGRAM:
    TOM SCHMIDT introduced Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski. Mayor Roswarski thanked Mayor Heath and his administration for the smooth transition. During his first days in office he faced a tough decision to freeze hiring and spending due to a budget shortfall imposed by the State legislature. Economic development, partnering with West Lafayette and Tippecanoe County, and education are high priorities for his administration. We all wish him well with his efforts in Indianapolis to solve the financial dilemma.
