- BIRTHDAY TABLE:
- OSCAR HOPKINS introduced members celebrating a birthday in
January and announced that $820 had been collected so far.
- CONGRATULATIONS:
- PAST DISTRICT GOVERNOR BILL HATFIELD presented KATHY MEEKS with
a Paul Harris Fellow. There are 100 current members who have
achieved that status. Thanks KATHY!
- ROTARY FACT:
- The tremendous tsunami trauma that has affected the Pacific
Region of South Asia is being
responded to by Rotarians around the
world. Relief efforts are being undertaken
by
individual Rotary clubs and
districts in the disaster regions in a race against time to prevent
other people
from dying of disease and starvation. To
find more about contributing to the
local efforts directed by Rotarians, link
onto the Rotary International Website and go to the
corresponding information
to contact the Rotarian Disaster Relief Coordinator. Contributions
should be
sent directly to the account set up
by the sponsoring Rotary entity.
- PROGRAM:
-
PRESIDENT
ELECT SUSAN HYCHKA introduced PRESIDENT NOMINEE JOHN SANDERSON who made
a very interesting attempt to explain the complex Healthcare War for
Economic Supremacy. He gave a fast
overview of the history of hospitals, insurance and Medicare. He reviewed pricing policies and showed
comparisons of Lafayette to other Indiana cities. After
declaring that the whole system is broken, he made several suggestions
for how it might be fixed. Judging by the
amount of after meeting interest and conversation, this topic may come |

WADE for help at the back
table.
- A
resignation has been received from RONDA WALSH
SCHWAB. Failure
to pay dues forced the
Board to drop JULIE NOVAK'S membership.
- The
attendance policy
going into effect this week really
only affects those who don't participate in Rotary activities and those
who are
members of the100% Club. The Board has
indicated that all members need to find time for Rotary at least once a
month. Seven meetings in six months meets
our local 25% rule. Rotary
International's attendance requirement is 60%. If
you come to the meeting to just check your name
on the sheet and
don't stay, you won't be counted. A
make-up will be needed for that meeting. Each
month a list of members who have not attended
will be given to the
Membership committee to follow-up.
-
All
"banked" make-ups
disappeared at the beginning
of this year. For concerned 100% Club
members and all other members, this means that you can continue to
serve Rotary
and "bank" make-ups for the next six months. The
"bank" will be eliminated
again at the beginning of July. Like
our membership policy, this practice is much more lenient than Rotary
International's rule. If you have
questions, please feel free to contact TOM SCHMIDT, KIRK CLARK or me.
- FOUNDATION FACTOID:
- Did you know that Lafayette Rotary Club is one of 2 clubs in
our
District with our own Foundation? The
other one is Indianapolis.
