ROTARY FACT: Rotary International is addressing the need for safe water for the peoples of the world. According to the United Nations more than 6,000 children die each day due to diseases associated with the lack of safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene. Sources of safe water are being sought in most regions of the world. In three major regions, more than 1 billion people do not have access to safe water. Six percent of them live in Latin America/Caribbean, twenty-seven percent live in Africa, and sixty-five percent of the 1 billion plus live in Asia. Rotarians of safe water areas are being asked to partner with clubs where unsafe water is prevalent to offer home to needy people. (Info found in the January "Rotarian".

    PRESIDENT BETTY'S WISDOM:

There has been a wall in the Michigan State Capital's press room where bloopers uttered have been recorded. Here are some of them:

"Before I give you the benefit of my remarks, I'd like to know what we're talking about."

"From now on, I'm watching everything you do with a fine-tooth comb."

"Mr. Speaker, what did we just pass?"

"Two and two don't make four in my book."

"There comes a time to put principle aside and do what's right."

"We've got them right where they want us."

"The chair would wish the members would refrain from talking about the intellectual level of other members. That always leads to problems."

"This bill goes to the very heart of the moral fiber of human anatomy."

"Some of our friends wanted it in the bill and some of our friends wanted it out, and Jerry and I are going to stick with our friends."

"Let's violate the law one more year."
