    Dear Jane,

    Please convey my heartfelt thanks to the officers and members of the Lafayette Rotary Club for the live plant delivered to my house by Rustic Bouquet. It's a lovely antherium plant, which will remind me of your thoughtfulness for a long time.

    The surgery west well and my recovery is on schedule. I expect to be back at Rotary in 3 - 4 weeks.

    Gratefully,

    Dear President Schmidt and Rotary Club Members,

    After attending the Rotary Luncheon two weeks in a row (April 12th and 19th) I wanted to take the time to thank you for the invitations. I truly enjoyed eating lunch with outstanding members of our community who dedicate their time and efforts to benefit others. I was honored to be in such great company!

    Thank you for recognizing me as both a student guest and scholarship recipient. Both actions were very encouraging and reassuring to my success in the future.

    To Cecil Blignaut, thank you for driving us to and from the luncheon. Will and I both enjoyed your Rotarian enthusiasm, entertaining sense of humor, and familiar kindness.

    May warmer weather and sunny days soon find us all! With admiration and thanks,

    Kendall Huffer

    ROTARY FACT:

    A World Community Service (WCS) project is born when Rotary clubs from two or more countries join together to accomplish a community service project. The WCS program links Rotary clubs needing extra help with clubs in other countries that are willing to provide funds, materials, and technical and professional assistance. The World Community Service program was officially launched in 1967. Since then, thousands of WCS projects involving Rotarians around the world have been completed. Each year, Rotary clubs provide an estimated US$26 million in funds and supplies.

    World Community Service projects have three criteria.
      The project must be humanitarian in nature.
    • Rotarians in two or more Rotary countries must be involved.
    • One of the participating countries must contain the site of the project . Eligible World Community Service projects include international projects that are:
    • Listed in the WCS Projects Exchange Database;
    • Formed through networking at international conventions or other meetings;
    • Identified by Group Study Exchange teams;
    • Completed with pooled funds, shared donated goods, or volunteers assistance; or
    • Recipients of grants from The Rotary Foundation.

    PROGRAM:
    SUSAN HYCHKA, President Elect, conducted a Club Assembly. She began by asking everyone to fill out the Committee Selection Sheet and turn it in. With the help of slides and committee chairs, she reviewed the programs that are funded through annual giving to the Rotary Foundation.

    Presenters Left to Right: GORDON, SUSAN, JACK, TERRY
    PHIL KLINGER talked about the upcoming Russian Open World Program which our club will participate in September 17 - 24, 2005. GORDON COPPOC spoke about both outbound and inbound Group Study Exchange opportunities. A group from Mexico will be here March 20, 2006. The Outbound team of 25 - 40 year olds involved in public safety, medical responders and emergency workers will have an all expense paid trip to Mexico, April 19 - May 17, 2006. TERRY WEST reminded the group of our involvement in the Ambassadorial Scholars program. We have had both inbound and outbound students whose generous scholarships were funded by our gifts to The Rotary Foundation. In addition, the Rotary Centers for International Studies, District Simplified Grants, Matching Grants and the 3-H Grants are programs that exist because Rotarians fund them. SUSAN explained that incoming presidents are required to make a commitment of how much the club will contribute to the Foundation. Our club has had a low level of giving for several years. BILL HATFIELD moved with a second by JIM TURLEY, that we commit $100 per member for next year. Brief discussion centered on keeping track of where we are in that commitment during the next year. The motion carried.
