    THANK YOU:

    Dear Jane:
I am flattered and honored that I have been deemed sufficiently deserving to have a wheelchair named for my 50 and more years of membership (and occasional attendance) in Lafayette Rotary. I appreciate it very much. In fact, I appreciate being a member of Rotary for those number of years. I wish my attendance record was a little better, but my heart is always there. It's a great club. It's nice to be recognized in such a useful way.
    Rotarilly yours,

    Mauri Williamson

    ROTARY FACT:

    Ambassadorial Scholarships
"The world's academic community has learned to appreciate Rotary ideals through the superb quality of Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars."
    Martin Limbird,
Director, International Advancement, Ball State University

The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program is Ambassadorial Scholarships. Since 1947 nearly 37,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today it is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. More than 1,000 scholarships were awarded for study in 2003-04. Through grants totaling approximately US$428 million, recipients from some 70 countries studied in more than 70 nations.

The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries.

Generous contributions from Rotarians worldwide represent continued faith that the students who are Ambassadorial Scholars today will be tomorrow's community and world leaders.

    PROGRAM:
Leslie Taulman, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, spent a year in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, beginning January 2004. She is an Ag Economist who wanted to extend her education and experience in another country. In addition to taking classes in public health, finance and management, Leslie also collected data regarding health, social and economic conditions from 180 mothers of young children. The relationship of these numbers is meant to help focus programs to aid women and children. She is a Rotaract member at Purdue. We look forward to seeing more of her in the future.

    PRESIDENT TOM'S WISDOM:

A high-school student came home one night rather depressed.

"What's the matter, son." asked his mother.

"Mom," said the boy, "it's my grades. They're all wet."

"What do you mean 'all wet?'" asked his mother.

"You know," he replied, "below C-level."
