JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER introduced Buddy Howell, Professor of Communications at Purdue, who spoke about presidential rhetoric and the ways we remember the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He observed that of post-WWII presidents, only Ronald Reagan referred to these events and even this was oblique. He also explained how the bombings contributed to the start of the Cold War and the way Ronald Reagan used them to end the Cold War.
