EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR |
President SUSAN announced that contributions to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International since July 1 total $2638 from 19 contributors. Based upon our reported membership of 230, we've reached 8% participation and our per capita contribution to the Annual Programs Fund stands today at $11.47. We are a long way from our per capita goal of $100/member. |
KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS: Rotary Zones 29 and 30 have established a Donor Advised Fund called the "Katrina Relief Fund" and are prepared to receive contributions from Rotarians. A committee identified by the leadership in the two zones will work with local Rotary clubs and districts, as well as emergency relief agencies, to meet the most pressing needs of people in the affected areas. Please note, that contributions to this account can only be accepted in US dollars. Make all checks payable to "TRF DAF" and indicate "Katrina Relief Fund" in the MEMO line. Checks should be mailed to: Mr. Clint McGowan, TRF DAF The Ayco Company 855 Route 146, Suite 120 Clifton Park, NY 12065 Contributions are tax deductible for US citizens. No Rotary Foundation recognition will be awarded for contributions to this fund. |
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International keeps statistics on its largest US clubs. In the year ended June 30, 2005, there were 147 United States clubs with 200 or more members. Per capita contributions to the Annual Programs Fund ranged from 0 to $1,180.39. Forty-three of these large clubs met or surpassed the $100/member goal. Lafayette ranked 97th of the 147 clubs. Our per capita giving was $45.40. Ann Arbor's per capita giving was $137.04. Minneapolis reached $128.45. Ames reached $124.48. |
The Board of Directors has approved the membership of Pauline Shen. If no objections are heard, she will be introduced as soon as possible. |
MARTHA CHISCON introduced us to Mr. and Mrs. ZBIG GRABOWSKI. ZBIG and MAUREEN SMIT were married in their home last Thursday. We wish both of you much deserved happiness. |
Pleas for a laptop computer for the club have been heard. JERRY COLE is the angel who delivered his Gateway laptop to us today. Watch for this computer to be used recording attendance and (hopefully) helping speakers with power point presentations. Thank you, JERRY!!! |
JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER introduced Phillip J. VanFossen, Director of the James F. Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship and Associate Professor of Social Studies Education at Purdue University. September 16th is Constitution Day. A Federal law passed December 8, 2001, mandates that all institutions receiving Federal funds must educate students about the United States Constitution. Citizens need to know the history of the document, that we have a Federal Republic (not a democracy), what rights are spelled out in the Constitution, that we are not yet "a more perfect union" (that is why we have amendments) and that the document is "a bundle of compromises". If you would like to become more familiar with all of the points Professor VanFossen made, they are spelled out in Sandra Day O'Connor's book, The Majesty of the Law. |
MARIELLEN NEUDECK introduced Samantha Benson and Daniel Tao
from Jefferson High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug
with the four- way test to commemorate meeting with us.
