    CONGRATULATIONDS:

PDG TOM BRANUM, Rotary Club of Indianapolis East, has been elected to the Rotary Board of Directors from Zone 30 for the term of 2007 - 2009.

    ROTARY FACT:

Recruiting a GSE Team from our district this year has been a challenge. The criteria requiring Team Member applicants to be in the Emergency Services area may have been too stringent to attract wide enough participation of professionals between the ages of 25 and 40. Therefore, the District is modifying the qualification criteria to allow professionals in Public Service to be candidates for GSE Team Members. We urge you to spread the word in your community about this modification and re-activate your GSE committee to recruit new applicants. Information and criteria are as follows:
    • The 2006 Group Study Exchange is with Mexico D4170. The Team will be in the Mexico City area from April 19 to May 17, 2006.
    • As always, GSE team members should be non-Rotarians between 25 and 40 years of age. Team Members need to be from Public Service vocations. Talk to your Public officials about this opportunity.
    • Team members' knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not necessary.
    • Applications deadline is November 30, 2005. Interviews by the Selection Committee will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Applicants need to reserve this date. Location and time of interviews will be provided to the applicants in early December.

    PROGRAM:
DAVE LAHR introduced Patti O'Callaghan, who reminded us that LUM is a social safety net supported by 47 local churches. One of LUM's programs is to help the working poor file their income taxes and take advantage of the Eared Income Tax Credit. Up to $4,300 per family can be used to pay bills, most often utility bills. E-filing at LUM brought back to our community nearly $500,000 last year. Volunteers are needed to learn to be tax preparers. Those who have helped in the past find it very rewarding. DAVE, chair of the Community Projects Committee, asked every member to fill out a survey to indicate the projects we would be interested in pursuing. If you weren't at the meeting, click here to print it out. Complete and send it to DAVE or bring it to the next meeting and give it to JANE.

    PRESIDENT SUSAN'S WISDOM:

For every tax problem there is a solution, which is straightforward, uncomplicated and wrong.

Where there's a will, there's an Inheritance Tax.

And, from George Bernard Shaw: The government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.
