    PRESIDENT SUSAN HYCHKA requested members/spouses to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: RAY KAVANAUGH, Carol Rew, wife of CARL REW, Ann Landgrebe, wife of DAVE LANDGREBE; HARLAN WHITE who is recovering from a small stroke and Ruth St. John, wife of VIRGIL ST. JOHN.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • BETTY SUDDARTH, chair of the Rotaract Committee, asked us to support Rotaract's food drive. Please bring food items on November 15th to help Rotaract help Food Finders.

    • JIM TURLEY announced that the founding celebration for the Paul Harris Society will be November 6th. If you are interested, it is not too late to participate. Please contact JIM for the details.

    • Lafayette Daybreak Rotary will meet at the Holiday Inn Select during the month of November. Every Thursday (except Thanksgiving) at 7 A.M. you will find them gathered in Rotary fellowship. They welcome members of our group who want to make-up.

    • TOM MORAN reminded us that ringing the bell for Salvation Army is a Rotary tradition since 1932. The need has probably never been greater since those depression years. We are asked to do two things: ring the bell with children, grandchildren, spouse or a friend and write a check.     • JIM KLUSMAN announced that the Stopping Child Abuse Summit will be held November 16th from 8:30 - 4:00. All interested parties are encouraged to register and attend.


    BIRTHDAY TABLE:

    CRAIG IRVINE introduced members who are celebrating a birthday this month. So far $2,365 has been collected from this generous group!

    PROGRAM:
    STAN MITHOEFER introduced Ron Ellis, President and CEO of Endocyte, Inc. Ron explained that Endocyte, a receptor targeted therapeutic company, has 50 full time employees and funds 15 grad students and post doctoral candidates at Purdue. The company develops drugs using folate to target rapidly dividing cancer cells, thereby eliminating the tumor with minimal negative effect of the rest of the body. So far 256 drugs have been developed; 3 of these worked.
    Napoleon Montana a former teacher from El Salvador completed the program with an appeal for help for a nation that has suffered 4 earthquakes, 3 hurricanes, 2 volcanic eruptions in recent years. He is currently running three orphanages, each of which has urgent needs. He asked for help with one that requires electrical upgrades to supply water to the building.
