JOHN; the family and friends of FAYE and JERRY COLE on the death of FAYE'S sister, Frieda Klein Hawks in Rolla, MO last Tuesday.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • LETA KELLEY announced that the Community Service Project involving filling boxes for Christmas will take place on December 2nd at Holy Trinity Church. Contact LETA for details.

    • Lafayette Daybreak Rotary will meet at the Holiday Inn Select during the month of November. Every Thursday (except Thanksgiving) at 7 A.M. you will find them gathered in Rotary fellowship. They welcome members of our group who want to make-up.

    • CARL REW announced that there are just a few spots available to ring the bell for Salvation Army. This is a Rotary tradition since 1932 and the need has probably never been greater since those depression years. We are asked to do two things: ring the bell with children, grandchildren, spouse or a friend and write a check payable to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation for Salvation Army. If you haven't signed up yet, check the remaining slots by clicking in SIGN UP SCHEDULE in the column at the left.

Then e-mail CARL the time and place you want!

    FAMILY NEWS:

In chatting with FAYE COLE about her sister, I learned that this was no ordinary lady. She received a heart transplant at the age of 60 and then began her college career, receiving a degree in psychology. Considered too old to teach, she helped the kids who were drug addicted or suffering from other conditions which society finds difficult to deal with. When she died, she asked that her body go back to the University of St. Louis for study purposes. Thanks for sharing, FAYE!

    PROGRAM:
FRITZ and LEONA COHEN created a program from information club members submitted in reference to their military service. Photos taken in uniform and sometimes in theaters of battle were shown while descriptions of their service innumerated. We learned while singing the service songs and asking members who were in that service to stand that not everyone was included in the program.
The club recognizes and values all who served. Those included in the program are: BUD BAUGH, FRITZ COHEN, GENE COURTANEY, BILL FULLER, JIM HANKS, BILL HATFIELD, DAN HEMAN, ED HENNER, GENE HILLS, CHUCK HORNER, WILL JORDAN, RAY KAVANAUGH, JACK KELLEY, JIM KLUSMAN, JERRY MC CARTHY, RALPH MORRIS, MILLARD PLUMLEE, JIM SMITH, LAWRENCE TEDER, JOHN TROTT, JIM TURLEY, and SALLY WATLINGTON. A big thanks to FRITZ and LEONA for such a lovely tribute!

    PRESIDENT SUSAN'S WISDOM:

As the Allies advanced into Germany at the end of World War II, General Patton received a message from headquarters ordering him to by-pass the city of Triers as it would take four divisions to capture. By the time the message arrived, however, the city had already fallen. Patton promptly sent a reply: "Have taken Triers with two divisions," he explained. "Do you want me to give it back?"
