SUSAN SMITH told us the vocation she is most proud of is being the mother of two and the grandmother of 3. She graduated from high school in Louisville, KY, from Chapman College in CA in 1975 and received a masters from Texas A & M in 1977. In 1979 she came to Lafayette and worked for Family Services, where she is now President and CEO. SUSAN was the second female to be invited to join Rotary and is active in many local organizations. |
SUSAN introduced Sallie Fahey, Executive Director of the Area Plan Commission, who gave us a fast version of Planning 101. She heads a staff of 15 and coordinates six member jurisdictions. The difference between the Comprehensive Long Range Plan and Ordinances was explained. A hand-out showing housing and job statistics showed there was an apartment boom in 2000; there is a single family home boom now; and there has been a loss of 4,000 jobs since 2001. Sallie predicts that housing prices will stabilize and that we have hit the bottom for lost jobs. |
