    THANK YOU:

    Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Thank you so much for the plant.
I'm getting around well on a walker and with exercise my knee is getting stronger and it's nice to have it straight again. Hopefully, I'll be "running" around in the near future.
    Again, many thanks,

    Leona Cohen

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • Next week is the first Tuesday of the month. Please bring food donations which will be given to Transitional Housing.

    • JACK KELLEY reported that we currently have $1,685 toward our $4,100 Haiti Water Wells project. He offered 2 Tickets to Oklahoma for $100 and 2 tickets to Jeremy Kittel's performance on March 10th for $25.

    • FRITZ COHEN thanked the club for Leona's plant, noting that knee replacement is not a "walk in the park". He announced that Wednesday, March 29th is the next SHOTS NOT SPOTS service project. Mark your calendars and sign up with FRITZ.

    • Your Board of Directors approved offering a financial incentive to encourage your participation in our Rotary Joint District Conference, April 7-9, 2006 in Muncie, the home of Garfield. The conference offers opportunities for fellowship, entertainment (Ball State University Singers Friday evening and music for listening and dancing Saturday evening). Sessions on Friday afternoon and Saturday offer a chance to learn about a variety of Rotary issues including Membership, Vocational Service, Community Service, Fundraising Projects, Literacy, Public Image, Rotary Foundation, Youth Exchange, Water for People, Gift of Life, Gift of Sight, Rotary's Response to Katrina and much more. The club will provide $100 toward registration and lodging costs for up to 20 members of this club to participate in the events of the weekend. There is a savings for registering before March 1st. Registration forms are available now at http://www.rotary6560.org/register.htm.

    • Artists among us -- respond to the Artist Call for the First Annual Red Gold Rotarian Art Exhibition to be held in conjunction with the Rotary Joint District Conference. The juried event offers the opportunity to join Red Gold in honoring the tomato with unique Rotarian-made art. The exhibition is open to Rotarians and those related to Rotarians producing fine arts and crafts and living in the joint districts of 6560 (our district) and 6540. The work may be serious or humorous in nature and must in some way involve, delineate or exonerate the tomato. Slides of your entry must be sent for judging by March 1, 2006. Get entry forms from JANE TURNER.

    • From CAROLINE BRIGGS of Daybreak:

On March 24th, 22 people including 9 Rotaract students, 6 Daybreak Rotarians are going to El Salvador. Each person is asked to use one suitcase for donations.

We would like to take just about anything for children -- all the way from newborn to teenage. Shoes, toys, clothes, some books, crayons, pencils and coloring books are especially appreciated. One thing I should stress is that very small toys that we think are worthless are seen as treasures down there. Girls are always asking for dolls-and they don't care if they are used. In El Salvador, we go to a school run by Chester Stemp (Purdue '63) and sort through everything.

We always have needs for teenagers. For girls, brushes, combs, hair bands, etc. For boys, balls, soccer shoes. I find that people don't need to spend a lot to give a lot. Things in our homes are very needed. Because we have so many people going, we could take towels and sheets. I know this was a particular need. Of all the clothing items, I would ask for shoes because those seem the hardest to get.

Items can be either brought to my office (Briggs & Morris) 1216 Main Street or brought to your meeting and I will pick them up.

    EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR:

94 members have contributed $10,469, which is 41% of the members participating, equaling $41.52 per capita.

    CONGRATULATIONS:
DAVE LUHMAN, President, Lafayette Rotary Foundation, recognized BETTY DOVERSBERGER with a Golden Service Plus certificate. This certificate is given to those who have given $2,500 to the Foundation. Thanks, BETTY!
    FAMILY NEWS:

DAVE SATTLER received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Central Ad Federation! Congratulations, Dave!

    PROGRAM:
STAN MITHOEFER introduced Judge Loretta Rush, judge of the juvenile court since 1999. She spoke to us of the need to help the children in our community. In addition to giving us the statistics related to the cases she hears, she appealed for CASA's, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and foster homes. Children need more assets and to feel valued by the community. She encouraged each of us to get to know the children in our neighborhood.
    STUDENT GUESTS:

GREG REGER introduced Dinah Easterly from Indiana Business College. She received a certificate and a travel mug with the four-way test to commemorate meeting with us.

    GUESTS:

Barbara Kingma, wife of GORDONKINGMA; Dinah McClure, guest of PAULINE SHEN; Nancy Klinger, wife of PHIL KLINGER; Jerry Bean, guest of JOHN MEYERS; Marianne Rose, guest of JIM KLUSMAN.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELP WITH MEETING FUNCTION:

    • Several of you have asked where the funds are coming from to underwrite the incentive of $100 for 20 members to attend the District Conference. President Elect JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER is unable to attend the Rotary International Convention in Denmark/Sweden this June. Some of the funds budgeted for the incoming president to go to RI Convention each year were diverted to help defray costs for a maximum of 20 members going to the District Conference to learn more about Rotary.
    • Each of us has a Rotary Member Number. It is the series of about 8 digits above your name in the address box on your Rotarian Magazine.

    PRESIDENT SUSAN'S WISDOM:

    Classroom Wisdom:

Never having seen ballet performed before, little Jerry was surprised when he attended his first recital to see the females dancing on the tips of their toes. "It would have been easier," he commented afterward, "if they'd just gotten taller girls."

Vacuums are nothings. We only mention them to let them know we know they're there.

I am not sure how clouds get formed. But the clouds know how to do it, and that is the important thing.

A monsoon is a French gentleman.

Thunder is a rich source of loudness.

Isotherms and isobars are even more important than their names sound.

It is so hot in some places that the people there have to live in other places.
