    BIRTHDAY TABLE:

DAVE SATTLER introduced the members celebrating a birthday this month and announced that so far \$1,309.00 has been collected. He was sure there was "ten or twenty thousand" that just hadn't been turned in. We all sang "Happy Birthday" in their honor.

    PROGRAM:
JIM HANKS introduced Joe Bota, saying "This native of Hungary is a great American. He escaped from the Russians at age 19. He is the personification of the great American business success story. After graduating from Indiana University with generous assistance from a non-relative, retired American school teacher, he climbed during a 34-year career the corporate ladder with Pay Less Supermarkets. He came to America in 1957 and to Lafayette in 1967. Joe proceeded to tell us his inspiring story of surviving an appendicitis attack while the hospital was under attack; spending nights in an air raid shelter because his house had been mined; and organizing Anti-Communist protests in two towns. His hasty departure from Hungary is a tale of adventure that modern movies glorify. His education and career in Indiana gave him a deep respect and love for this country. He feels lucky that someone has looked after him all his life.

    STUDENT GUESTS:

PAUL ZIEMER introduced Anna Chang and Alex Turco from West Lafayette High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the four-way test to commemorate meeting with us.

    GUESTS:

Ted Fuller, son of BILL FULLER; Mary Ann Bobillo, guest of LAWRENCE TEDER; Pat Cunningham, guest of MIKE KING; Justin Elshire, guest of JANE TURNER; Melba Crawford, guest of CHRIS JOHANNSEN.

    PRESIDENT SUSAN'S WISDOM:

    • When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
    • If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
    • Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
    • You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
    • Reading what people write on desks can teach you a lot.
    • Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
    • Puppies still have bad breath, even after eating a tic-tac.
    • Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
    • School lunches stick to the wall.
    • You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
    • The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.
