    THANK YOUS:

    Dear Jane:

I wanted to write to you and the entire Lafayette Rotary Club and express my sincere gratitude for the recent vocational scholarship that was given to me. This money has been put into my account at Indiana Business College and will be used for future tuition costs. With the many expenses that I already have, this will be an extra boost for me to finish my degree.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Lara Rodgers
    Future Administrative Assistant

    CONGRATULATIONS:
DAVE LUHMAN, president of Lafayette Rotary Foundation, presented certificates to AL CHISCON for Golden Service recognition and HARLEY FREY for Golden Service Plus recognition for contribution to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation.

    PROGRAM:
After giving a short history of the Lafayette Rotary Foundation and mentioning that the Foundation now has about $350,000, DAVE LUHMAN introduced KEITH SMITH to talk to us about how to Survive Financially for 90 Years. He and his wife, Jane, have published a book entitled Strategies in Personal Finance (which he feels every adult should own!). A fast summary of his thoughts are: 1) Start saving early; Diversify, Plan-Execute-Review-Revise investments, Have a Retirement Management Team. 2) Asset Allocation: 70% Equity/30% fixed income constantly. 3) Hedge Funds are bad. Exchange Traded Funds are good. Preferred Stock is great. 4) Estate Planning: Have all the necessary paper work (will, healthcare representative, etc.); consider a Revocable Living Trust or an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust; and consider direct giving to children, grandchildren, charities or causes. It feels good. And don't forget the Lafayette Rotary Foundation when giving!
    VISITING ROTARIANS:

JUDY BUSH, Attica/Williamsport; ED ELLIOTT, Naples, FL,

    STUDENT GUESTS:

LIZ SOLBERG introduced Megan Mohler and Isaac Heath from Harrison High School. Each received a certificate to commemorate meeting with us.

    GUESTS:

Jane Smith, wife of KEITH SMITH; Ann Hobbs, wife of JIM HOBBS; Nancy Runnels, wife of LEW RUNNELS; Nate Barrett, guest of JERRY COLE; Charles Bossert, guest of DONNA MELOY, Kara Jensen, incoming President of Rotaract and guest of BILL LOVELL.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELP WITH MEETING FUNCTION:

    PRESIDENT SUSAN'S WISDOM:

    • The first rule of investing is not to lose money. The second rule is not to forget the first rule!
    • Sometimes your best investments are the ones you don't make.
    • Every time one guy sells, another one buys, and they both think they're smart!
    • Bull Market is a random market movement causing an investor to mistake himself for a financial genius.
    • A long term investment is a short term investment that failed.
    • A market analyst is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today!
