    CLUB CONCERNS:

    PRESIDENT SUSAN asked that we keep the following member in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK; Bill, husband of NELLIE LECHMAN; and Diana, daughter of Gary and BARB REIF. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of past member Ned Helmuth who passed away Sunday, May 7th.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • The Daybreak garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, from 8:00 a.m. 'til ?? (probably around 2 or so). The sale will be in Dr. Tom Mattingly's Eye Center parking lot, on Union St. & 14th, just west of PEFCU. Some of the proceeds will go to help fund the El Salvador project. Please feel free to donate, attend, or help with the sale. If you have questions, please contact JOHN MORRIS patent.lawyer@verison.net

    • There will be no Annual Dinner this year. Due to decreasing interest for the last several years the Committee decided to cancel the event. We will do all of the usual annual recognitions at our regular meeting on June 27th. This will be a longer than usual meeting, so please block 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. on your calendar that day.

    • Committee Selection forms are available at the back table. We need one from each of you.

    • Rotarian of the Year nomination forms are available. This award is presented at the Annual Dinner each year. Please pick up a form and nominate one of our many worthy members.

    • The Crawfordsville Rotary Club will have its annual golf outing on May 17th at the Crawfordsville Country Club. The meal begins at 11:45, golf is at 1:00. The price is $55 per player and $50 for hole sponsors.

    • Every Rotarian Every Year: 135 members (or 58.7% of our membership) have contributed $13,874 (or $60.32 per capita). We have two more months to reach the goal of 100% at $100 each. Please do your part.

    PROGRAM:
    PHIL KLINGER introduced fellow Rotarian JO ANN GORA, President of Ball State University. She told us about an exciting program at Ball State called Immersive Learning Programs. A twenty Million Dollar grant from the Lilly Endowment funds this project, where the end project benefits the community as well as the students. The four projects she elaborated on involved helping Hispanic immigrants adjust to life in the U.S.; an Entrepreneurial Class where a business plan is presented for a pass or fail grade (nearly 100 small businesses have been spawned from this course); NewsLink Indiana where three TV news briefs are produced every day by students; and an Around the World in 90 Days Tour by Architectural students, who are then required to design a space for their hometowns. Under the umbrella of Building Better Communities Initiative, projects in the Lafayette/West Lafayette community include Archaeological Studies at Prophetstown, 11 road projects, Lafayette Urban Enterprises Association projects, and Electronic Field Trips used by our Elementary Schools.

    Board Happenings
    • The Youth Committee has selected six organizations to support with campership funds.
    • Before every home football game next fall, we will be selling BBQ Chicken at the corner of S.R. 25 and U.S. 52 (old Sarge Biltz lot).
    • Our club will co-sponsor with Daybreak a matching grant for San Salvadore and committed $4,000 to the project.
    • The policy regarding Rotary International Convention Registration for our incoming president was changed to read "To be paid prior to deadline to avoid late registration charge." The Dollar amount was left out to make the policy more flexible and the budget more accurate.

    Estimate the sociological problems which might accompany the end of the world. Construct an experiment to test your theory.

    PHYSICS
    Explain the nature of matter. Include in your answer an evaluation of the impact of the development of mathematics on science.

    PHILOSOPHY
    Sketch the development of human thought; estimate its significance. Compare with the development of any other kind of thought.
