    PRESIDENT JAN asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, Bill, husband of NELLIE LECHMAN; Diana, daughter of Gary and BARB REIF, and Carroll, father of JANE TURNER who broke his back in a one-car accident.

    PRESENTATION:

    Recalling Past-Presidnt SUSAN's words reminding us of his tireless work in obtaining matching grants and organizing the Russian judges' visit to our area, President JAN presented JACK KELLEY with his Rotarian of the Year Award.


    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • TIM LUZADER is looking for more volunteers for the Career Day Events on Campus, July 14 and 21. Please contact TIM at tluzader@purdue.edu.

    • Mark your calendar. Shots Not Spots will need volunteers on August 9th.

    BIRTHDAY TABLE:

    ROB GALBRAITH introduced the 27 members celebrating a birthday in July and announced that so far $2,387 has been collected for the Foundations.

    ROTARY FACT:

    Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.

    PROGRAM:
    DAVE LAHR introduced Jane Boswell and his wife, Sandy Lahr, all neighbors and founding members of the 9th Street Hill Historic Neighborhood Association. He told a story about how the Association got started. Jane explained the five points she thinks are important in being a neighborhood: Be Realistic; Be Inclusive; Communicate; Be Nice; Bring Snacks. Of these, the most important is "Bring Snacks!" They showed an award winning video prepared by one of the neighborhood teens. Sandy Lahr reminded us that it is great to feel safe in your neighborhood and wishes it for every neighborhood in the city.

    Highlights from the Board of Director's meeting:

    • Tom Frey reported that sponsorship for the Gus Macker Event is coming along. A presenting sponsor is still needed.
    • Stan Mithoefer reported that publicity has started for the BBQ Chicken sales before every home football game.
    • The membership committee's informational piece received endorsement from the board.
