FRITZ COHEN introduced John Kirby, Professor of Literature at Purdue, who gave us three criteria to consider when deciding if a book is a "Classic" book. Has it withstood the test of time? Is it the best of its kind? Does it embody the "mythic values" of an interpretive community? He went on to define and describe the elements of a monomyth. The Wizard of Oz and the Harry Potter books are examples of stories based on monomyth. Several good questions followed his talk. |
