    CLUB CONCERNS:

    PRESIDENT JAN asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, Diana, daughter of Gary and BARB REIF; and TOM WERNER whose father passed away last week.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

    • JAN thanked all the Shots Not Spots volunteers. Your help was greatly appreciated.

    • Family of Rotary Picnic - What fun! Thank you to PAM WINDLER, PAT COREY, JANE TURNER, and all that helped make it a great time. STAN & Kay MITHOEFER, FRED & Jan ANDERSON, JULIE & Brett LAHNER were great kitchen help! We all enjoyed delicious BBQ chicken and many goodies from others.

    • JOHN TROTT announced that 10 volunteers will be needed for each of the home football Saturdays to sell BBQ chicken before the game. September 2nd is the first Saturday. Sign up sheets are on the bulletin board.

    • TOM MORAN has tickets for all of us to sell for BBQ Chicken. It does not have to be eaten at a football game. Think family reunions, parties, or any other event where food is enjoyed.

    PROPOSED NEW MEMBER:

    The Board of Directors approved TOM FARKAS as a member of our club. TOM has been a member of the Mishawaka, IN club with 46 years of perfect attendance. He and his wife, Jan, have recently moved to Lafayette. If there

    PROGRAM:
    JEANNE NORBERG introduced Professor of Agronomy, Ron Turco, who is also Director of Indiana Water Resource Center. He outlined the water research projects in the State noting that the Wabash River is one of the important projects. The Wabash River is 510 miles long, drains 22,000 square miles (about 2/3 of the state), and is free of a dam for 411 miles. It passes through seventeen counties and has water quality problems. In addition to the research, he is coordinating activities with other agencies and Purdue.

    Board of Director's Report:
    • It was decided to work with a Rotary District in Mississippi or Louisiana to send the "basket money" collected for Katrina Disaster Relief. About $1,700 has been collected. Future "basket money" will go toward the El Salvador Matching Grant.
    • District Governor Bing Pratt will visit us on October 31st.
