    PROGRAM:
JOHN SANDERSON introduced Dr. James McGlothlin, who assured us that there will be a pandemic caused by Avian Flu. He explained how flu viruses work and the genetic "drift" that causes them to spread from one animal to another. Symptoms do not present themselves for about 2 days after infection, allowing the virus to be spread unintentionally. After 9 days, most humans die. Dr. McGlothlin's assistants, Stephanie Linsenmeyer and Christina Jackson, talked about how to avoid getting and spreading the disease and assured us that domestic animals (cats and dogs) can't spread the virus.
