Rotary District 6860

July 2015

July 1, 2015 is here and the Rotary World embarks on a new year.  Here in Rotary District 6860, the 52 clubs have inducted new club officers and directors, have set goals for the new Rotary  year and are beginning actions to carry out the Rotary motto of “Service above Self”.

It is with great pleasure that I represent each of you and the individual clubs in Rotary District 6860 as your District Governor.  Roger and I look forward to getting to know you as we travel throughout the district on District Governor Visits and attend events and projects held by the Rotary Clubs.   Our district is well known throughout the world for its rich history of service and accomplishments, for providing outstanding leadership, and for contributing generously to The Rotary Foundation.  District 6860 is proud to be the home to three former Rotary International Presidents, Frank Spain, 1951-1952, and Roy Hickman, 1972-1973, both of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and Glenn Estess, 2004-2005, of the Rotary Club of Shades Valley.

The heart of Rotary beats at the club level and the work begins there so each of us must strive to do our share. We must work to build and strengthen our clubs through attending meetings, participate in service projects and invite others to join us in being members of Rotary.  Rotarians must help to continue Rotary’s ability to do good works in the world by donating to The Rotary Foundation every year.  All of us must help to build Rotary’s public image by telling of stories and the sharing of pictures in our community and around the world of the numerous and life-supporting service projects in which Rotarians are engaged.   AND we can proudly stand together and say, WE are this close to eradicating Polio from the world!

Rotary International President, Ravi Ravindran, has asked each of us to give of ourselves to others.  2015-2016 is our year!  Our time is NOW, the year each of us becomes a “Gift to the World”.
