Rotary District 6860

September 2015

The September theme of Youth Services turns our attention to youth and young adults in each community.  School is in session and it is time to contact the schools where Interact and Rotaract Clubs sponsored by your Rotary Club are located.  Appoint a contact within your club membership and ask them to reach out to club sponsors and get the renewal process started for each of those clubs.  Energize your club members by inviting the Interact and Rotaract members to participate in some of your club projects and, in turn, assist them with some projects of their group.  The ideas, energy and enthusiasm of youth are an inspiration as we work side by side in our communities.

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is planned for January 28-30, 2016 at the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.  Planning is underway.  Each club is encouraged to sponsor at least two students to RYLA 2016!  The 2016 RYLA Committee asks each club to identify a RYLA coordinator for their club. The coordinator will be the single contact point for all RYLA communication.

Just a reminder that District 6860 Kicked off August 15th the Membership Growth Challenge of 100 members in 100 Days”.  New members inducted into clubs will be tracked from August 15th through November 30th!  The club with the most new members will be awarded $250 MEMBERSHIP MOOLAH to be used to fund a club project!  The club with the greatest average of new members will be rewarded $250 MEMBERSHIP MOOLAH to be used to fund a club project (A club is eligible to win both rewards!)

Boiling N Bragging was Saturday, August 15th where hundreds of football fans turned out for the Football Season Kick-Off party to benefit the Critical Care Transport at Children’s of Alabama.  Rotarian volunteers and Rotary Club sponsorships helped to make this event a success!

Roger and I have now completed visits to twenty-five of the fifty-two clubs in District 6860.  Everywhere we travel Rotarians are serving their community through service projects sharing their talents, skills and resources.  What fun we are having meeting Rotarians and attending Rotary meetings all over North Alabama!  We leave those meetings inspired by the contributions Rotarians are making in their communities, the kindness and willingness of Rotarians to help those less fortunate, those in need, those who wish to help themselves but just need a little assistance from a friend, a Rotarian Friend.  Rotary members truly are “A Gift to the World”.
